Software Engineer (Code Review & Quality)

We seek a Senior Software Engineer focused on code review and quality to enforce standards across our platform, review pull requests, flag risks and technical debt, and guide developers toward clean, secure and scalable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform thorough code reviews for backend (Laravel/PHP) and related components.
• Ensure adherence to coding standards, architectural guidelines and best practices.
• Identify bugs, security risks, performance issues and design flaws early in the lifecycle.
• Provide constructive feedback and mentor developers on better patterns and approaches.
• Help define and evolve coding guidelines, review checklists and PR workflows.
• Collaborate with Tech Lead / Architect on design and refactoring decisions.
• Work with the team to improve test coverage and encourage TDD / automated testing where relevant.
• Promote use of static analysis, linters, and quality tools (e.g. PHPStan, PHP-CS-Fixer, PHPUnit).
• Participate in technical design discussions and solution reviews.
• Support continuous improvement of our CI/CD pipelines from a quality perspective.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• 5+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer (PHP/Laravel preferred).
• Strong experience reviewing code in team environments (PRs, merge requests, etc.).
• Deep understanding of Laravel / PHP, OOP, design patterns, and SOLID principles.
• Good experience with MySQL (schema design, query optimization basics).
• Familiarity with REST APIs, authentication, and typical web application architecture.
• Experience working with Git-based workflows (feature branches, pull requests).
• Strong focus on clean code, maintainability and scalability.
• Good understanding of security best practices for web applications.
• Comfortable giving and receiving feedback; able to challenge ideas, not people.

Nice to Have

• Experience with AWS-based environments and related services.
• Experience with high-traffic, high-availability platforms.
• Familiarity with static analysis tools, code coverage tools, and performance profiling.
• Experience mentoring more junior developers or acting as a tech lead.
