Qualifications
- Possess a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Health and Safety from a recognized University.
- Have at least 5 years of relevant experience in the retail or distribution sector.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of legislations (e.g. OSHA, Fire Code) and procedures;
- Sound knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices;
- Possess excellent organisational skills, verbal and written communication skills, as well as proven working knowledge of safety management information system.
Duties
- To develop, implement and monitor Occupational Health and Safety policy, programs and procedures.
- To assist in complying with current Health and Safety legislation and/or regulations with the objectives of ensuring that all reasonable and proper measures are taken to protect the safety and health of workers and staff.
- To establish specific training programs in areas of safety, including first aid, accident prevention and investigation and other matters related to implementing safety procedures.
- To increase health and safety awareness at all levels within organization.
- To investigate and report on all serious/critical personal injury accidents occurring to workers.
- To act as liaison with all the related governmental bodies and regulating agencies.
- To receive reports from and respond to orders issued by Department of Labour inspection.
- Inspect sites and carry out health and safety risk assessments
- Identify corrective and preventative actions and report to management
- Develop systems and liaise with all departments to ensure all employees comply with all relevant safety requirements
- Identify safety training needs, organize and co-ordinate safety training courses and prepare training material where appropriate
- Carry out health and safety committees
- Develop, implement and maintain an effective program and ensure compliance to satisfy the requirements of local legislation e.g. OSHA
- Ensure Health and Safety and Fire Safety and First Aid equipment availability
- Perform oth tasks and related duties as assigned.
