o ensure safe and efficient management of the clinic’s pharmacy, including dispensing, stock control, DDA compliance, and HIS use, while combining pharmacist duties with managerial oversight to meet clinical, legal, and ethical standards.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • 1. Clinical & Dispensing Duties
  1. Dispense medications accurately in accordance with prescriptions, clinic policy, and pharmacy regulations.
  2. Provide clinical advice to doctors, nurses, and patients regarding medication use, interactions, and side effects.
  3. Ensure all prescriptions comply with legal requirements, including those under the Dangerous Drugs Act.
  4. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • 2. Dangerous Drugs (DDA) Compliance
  1. Act as the clinic’s officially designated DDA signatory.
  2. Maintain accurate records of receipt, dispensing, and destruction of controlled substances.
  3. Ensure secure storage of controlled drugs as per Mauritian regulations.
  4. Conduct periodic audits of controlled drug registers.
  • 3. Pharmacy Inventory & Stock Control
  1. Oversee full inventory management, including procurement, stock rotation, expiry checks, and stock counts.
  2. Anticipate and forecast medication needs based on historical data and doctors’ prescribing patterns.
  3. Ensure emergency medications and critical stock items are always available.
  4. Investigate and resolve discrepancies in stock records promptly.
  5. Implement measures to reduce expired items from stock.
  • 4. Hospital Information System (HIS)
  1. Master and oversee all pharmacy-related HIS functions, including stock updates, usage reports, and ordering.
  2. Ensure all dispensing, receiving, and stock adjustments are accurately recorded in HIS in real time.
  3. Generate and review periodic pharmacy reports for management.
  • 5. Leadership & Administration
  1. Supervise pharmacy assistants/dispensers and ensure adherence to procedures.
  2. Train pharmacy team members on HIS usage, stock control, and DDA compliance.
  3. Liaise with suppliers for timely deliveries and best pricing.
  4. Prepare monthly pharmacy performance reports for management.
  • 6. Quality & Compliance
  1. Ensure compliance with the Pharmacy Act, Dangerous Drugs Act, and other relevant Mauritian health regulations.
  2. Participate in internal audits and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  3. Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment in the pharmacy.
  • 7. Reporting
  1. Prepare and submit accurate monthly sales reports, highlighting key trends, top-selling items, and variances from previous months.
  2. Compile monthly purchase reports, detailing suppliers, quantities, costs, and any special or urgent orders.
  3. Record and report all expired stock on a monthly basis, including quantities, value, disposal methods, and recommendations to minimize future wastage.
  4. Monitor and track the pharmacy budget each month, ensuring expenditures remain within limits and promptly flagging any variances or cost increases.
  • 8. Staff Management and Training
  1. Train and mentor pharmacy staff to ensure they follow best practices, comply with regulations, and maintain high professional standards.
  2. Oversee staff performance through regular evaluations, providing feedback, coaching, and support for improvement where needed.
  3. Ensure patient care and service standards are consistently met, with a focus on safety, efficiency, and compassion.
  4. Provide expert pharmaceutical advice to patients on medication use, side effects, storage, and interactions.
  5. Supervise and verify the accurate dispensing of prescriptions to avoid errors and ensure patient safety.
  6. Maintain strong working relationships with patients, doctors, and other healthcare professionals, ensuring clear communication and excellent customer service

    Qualifications & Experience:
    1. Bachelor’s degree of Pharmacy (B.Pharm).
    2. Registered Pharmacist with the Pharmacy Council of Mauritius.
    3. Minimum 3 years’ experience in a hospital, clinical, or retail pharmacy setting (hospital experience preferred).
    4. Proven experience in inventory management/information systems.
    5. Prior DDA handling and compliance experience strongly preferred.
