Optometrist

Mathieu Opticien is looking for an Optometrist to ensure high-quality customer service and an exceptional patient experience in-store when conducting eye examinations and oversee the smooth day-to-day running of the optical store alongside the Shop Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Conduct all consultations in the optical store testing room, or occasionally at a patient’s home when required.
• Perform comprehensive eye examinations using various instruments and tests.
• Detect vision problems, eye diseases, and other ocular conditions.
• Prescribe and dispense corrective lenses, such as glasses and contact lenses.
• Refer patients to ophthalmologists or other specialists when further evaluation or treatment is required.
• Educate patients on eye health, hygiene, and safety.
• Calibrate optometry instruments and ensure proper maintenance of equipment in the optical store testing room.
• Keep accurate and updated records of patient history, treatment, and progress.
• Stay updated on the latest clinical developments and best practices in optometry.
• Collaborate with the Shop Supervisor to oversee daily store operations, including punctuality, team environment, and handling staff issues.

Profile

• Recognised degree in Optometry (UK, France, Malaysia, South Africa, or equivalent), with eligibility for registration with the Optical Board of Mauritius.
• Registered, or in the process of registration, with the Ministry of Health and the Optical Board (if new to Mauritius).
• A minimum of two years of clinical experience as an optometrist would be appreciated.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Good knowledge of new communication & accounting tools such as Azurmind software.
• Proficient in using computerized and electronic equipment and software for eye examinations and record-keeping.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other eye care professionals.
• Flexibility to work various shifts, including Saturdays.
