Head of Accounting (Mauritius). In the role of Head of Accounting, you will be responsible for the overall project accounting and project financial reporting.

The project HIV/TB in the Democratic Republic of Congo has increased healthcare access for HIV / TB patients in the DRC from 42% to 80 % in the years between 2018 and 2022. The project will close for Cordaid as of June 2024. Cordaid is setting up a temporary project finance office in Mauritius to support the closure of this project and completing the 2024 statutory accounts by the end of May 2025.
The project finance team consists of a project Finance Manager, Sub-Recipient Financial Coordinator and 20 Financial Controllers, Senior Financial Controller Cash Management, Supply Chain Accountant and other accounting staff based in DRC.
Cordaid is seeking to recruit eight local finance bilingual (English/French) employees in Mauritius. There are four roles for which the contract period is 12 months and four roles with an initial contract period of 6 months (full time, 40 hours/week).

Position and responsibilities
In the role of Head of Accounting, you will be responsible for the overall project accounting and project financial reporting. You will work closely together with the Sub-Recipient finance staff and the Supply Chain Accountant to ensure the accounts and reporting are complete, accurate and ready on time.
You will have the scope to work together with the project team based in DRC, the finance team at Cordaid headquarters and your colleagues in Mauritius to set-up this new organisation and complete the reporting requirements on time.
- You are responsible for the day-to-day accounting of all project transactions.
- You manage the team of four finance project officers and two SR accountant.
- You support your team with technical knowledge in areas such as accounting standards, month and year-end procedures and ensuring that all accounting transactions are recorded accurately, completely and on a timely basis.
- You ensure the accounting systems are well maintained, including master data and where relevant you will propose system and or process changes to the finance manager.
- You analyse the financial results and balances at period-end providing meaningful comments on variances against budgets and previous periods.
- You ensure the accounts are reconciled with underlying primary data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- You report in the daily finance team meetings the progress made and raise any bottlenecks as relevant.
