The role of the Manager - Legal will be to assist the Head of Legal.

 

The role of the Manager - Legal will be to assist the Head of Legal to ensure that the bank is adhering to the constitution and by-laws as well as the laws and regulations of the country & ensure all legal matters are managed properly, efficiently and that the relevant and respective stakeholders are shared and given proper advice and guidance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for rolling out legal risk policies and procedures, ensuring that senior management fully understand the scope and requirements of legal related policies.
  • Liaising with external legal advisors on specific issues/ projects requiring further legal opinion/ court proceedings.
  • Appearing in court for the Bank as required from time to time
  • Organizing, providing documents and assisting with disciplinary committees as and when required.
  • Designing, developing and implementing appropriate policies, procedures and processes to support operational (for e.g. complaints management) and legal matters.
  • Drafting and vetting of contacts, agreements, and other legal documents required in the conduct of business.
  • To advise all Departments on legal matters.
  • Act as backup in the absence of the Head of Legal.

PREREQUISITES:

  • Holder of a law degree & Master of Laws or any other equivalent qualifications
  • At least 5 years’ experience at a managerial level
  • Qualified Barrister at Law/Attorney

SKILLS:

  • Structured thinker with an ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in both English and French
  • Proactive, well-organized, detailed conscious and team player
  • A working knowledge of the laws in Mauritius.
  • A systematic work method, attention to detail, self-motivated and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, staff and management.
  • Good computer skills, and in particular a good knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook email.
