Job Title Sports Officer
Campus: Mauritius Campus
Reporting to: Head of Counselling Wellbeing Service
Overall Purpose
The postholder is responsible for supervising the provision of a wide range of recreational and competitive sports opportunities for students and staff at the University as well as the wider community. This will include the competitive sports programme, intramural sports, social sports programme and the general activity programme. The postholder will also be required to provide information on the facilities and services available to enquirers.
Principle Duties
- Responsible for supervising the delivery of the competitive sports programme for students including coordinating team training, transport, match officials and competition entry (including non-student competition).
- To supervise & develop casual & part time competitive sports coaches, ensuring successful delivery of home and away fixtures.
- To supervise the implementation of a range of intramural leagues, competitions and events for students and staff.
- To organise a variety of taster sessions/ induction events for new students.
- To support the management and administration of the coach/ officials education programme.
- To support the delivery of holiday sports and coaching programmes.
- To provide a high level of customer service that reflects the dynamic nature of sports services and meets the evolving needs of all participants.
- To ensure marketing material is effectively distributed and displayed at facilities to help raise participation levels.
- To be responsible for complying with all relevant health and safety requirements, ensuring adherence to appropriate legislation and regulations.
- To provide information to prospective members on the facilities and services on offer, and acting as a point of information for general enquiries.
- To keep all sporting equipment/ grounds in a spotless state and condition at all times
- Other tasks that may be required by the Head of Wellbeing Counselling Service with particular reference to major events such as examination, invigilation and graduation ceremonies, when all campus staff are expected to participate.
- To undertake relevant health & safety checks on the facilities, and to report any issues or concerns to the appropriate authority

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Selection Criteria:
Education / Qualifications / Experience– Essential
- Educated to degree level ideally in a sports related degree
- Experience of coaching a sport and/ or delivering sports related training courses.
- Experience of organising and managing activities to support multiple sports teams, including coordinating training sessions and competitions.
- Experience of working with a diverse range of people delivering a high standard of customer care.
- First Aid trained
Skills / Knowledge – Essential
- Strong inter-personal skills and the experience of working effectively with colleagues to deliver a high-quality service.
- Ability to promote and market activities and events.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including making presentations and delivering coaching and training sessions.
- Good administration and organisation skills
