The Underwriter will play a key role in assessing insurance proposals determines risk, applying the necessary terms and conditions, and ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines.

 

This position will involve reviewing and processing insurance policies, preparing quotations, and working closely with reinsurers and other departments to ensure seamless service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwriting Quotation:
    • Review and assess underwriting information according to guidelines.
    • Prepare Probable Maximum Loss (PML) sheets for Manager approval.
    • Work with reinsurers and brokers to secure quotations and renewal terms.
    • Collect and analyze data for facultative placement and special acceptance.
  • Processing of Client Insurance Policies:
    • Release client policies in accordance with KYC guidelines and ensure compliance.
    • Process new, renewal, and endorsement policies within set timelines.
    • Coordinate with the Accounts Department for payment arrangements.
    • Ensure that policy documents and cover notes are accurate and timely.
  • Renewal Terms:
    • Generate renewal notices and revise claims as per set terms.
    • Review claims experience and recommend necessary adjustments.
    • Negotiate renewal terms with reinsurers and brokers on a case-by-case basis.
  • Administration:
    • Manage internal communications and escalations effectively.
    • Ensure adherence to internal governance and integrity guidelines.
    • Handle incoming calls and emails promptly.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree Holder and/or progression towards an Advanced Diploma in Insurance or any other relevant qualifications
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in underwriting.

    • Business insurance operations.
    • Data collection and analysis.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly MS Excel.
  • Behavioural Competencies:
    • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
    • Effective planning, organizing, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
