Northfields International High School is currently recruiting a Trainee Database Administrator to support its MIS (Isams/ Moodle etc) and provide desktop support to the School and its subsidiaries.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Provision & maintenance
- Complete all necessary preparation and provision of the system for each academic year, to include importing new users, timetable, calendar, and event and meeting data.
- Set up all required class lists, groups, etc, for academic and activity use.
- Undertake all ongoing revisions to data such as timetable changes.
- Undertake regular maintenance tasks such as a monthly backup, the annual rollover of data and the archiving of staff leavers (in liaison with HR and IT).
- Provide the export of data required by internal sources and external organisations (e.g. data files for photographers) and import of required externally supplied data (e.g. pupil and staff photos).
- Provide data for publications such as the School Calendar.
- In liaison with the IT Services Manager co-ordinate, the integration between the database and other current and future school databases and systems.
- Maintain the links and data flows between the school’s data systems and develop these as necessary.
- Liaise with third party software vendors on maintenance issues and any custom requirements / reports.
- In liaison with the IT Services Manager, ensure security of the databases.
User accounts
· Integrate user accounts with active directory network accounts and ensure all new users are set up in accord with agreed naming conventions.
- · Enable new users and any staff undertaking revised roles to receive all required system permissions relating to their academic and activity functions.
- · Remove access to the database for leavers.
Academic reporting
· Working to the school's reporting cycle prepare and provide all tracking sheets and report templates.
Timetable
- · Assist in the production of the School Academic Timetable using Timetabler.
- · Uplift the School Academic Timetable onto iSAMs including allocation of classrooms and staff.
System Maintenance
- Monitor database operations to ensure optimal performance at all times.
- Undertake regular maintenance of the system to remove unused data and where required add and amend additional tables, reports, lists etc. (in liaison with MIS system supplier
- Establish and maintain an update procedure to the system covering preinstallation backup, documentation and communication of changes and their potential impact.
- Document the workflow procedures for the yearly use of the MIS system and amend with any revision or changes.
- Liaise with users and iSAMS about any errors, development requests, and problems encountered and undertake troubleshooting of MIS system software and services.
Other duties:
- Provide desktop technical support:
- Pick up support requests (tickets)
- Maintain up to date ticket information
- Resolve or escalate tickets promptly
- Take responsibility and follow up as needed.

EDUCATION
- A Degree in computer information systems or any relevant degree
- Good HSC/A Level results
EXPERIENCE
- Strong on database applications with clear evidence provided
- Previous experience of working with a database.
- Proven experience with Microsoft SQL.
- Experience of resolving application and database issues.
- Experience of working and delivering to agreed deadline and schedules.
- Able to work effectively under stress
