The Specialist is responsible to perform thorough testing before installing software, apply patches/upgrades, manage file systems, monitor performance and troubleshoot alerts from commercial, open source and locally developed monitoring tools.
The Specialist is responsible to perform thorough testing before installing software, apply patches/upgrades, manage file systems, monitor performance and troubleshoot alerts from commercial, open source and locally developed monitoring tools.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Expert knowledge in AIX/Solaris and RedHat Linux.
- Database administration on Oracle RDBMS and/ or MS SQL server
- System software installation and apply patches/upgrades
- Ensure changes are planned and implemented in a sound low risk manner, without creating system outages.
- Manage file systems and perform Space capacity planning on storage/servers.
- monitor performance and perform system tuning
- System monitoring and troubleshoot alerts from off the shelf or locally developed monitoring tools.
- System failure analysis and recovery
- Ensuring that storage, archiving, backup and recovery procedures are functioning correctly.
- Experience in replication technologies e.g. Storage replication.
- Implement and maintain security best practices to protect the IT infrastructure from cyber threats.
- Automate routine tasks using scripting languages like Bash, Python, or Ansible.
- Hardware/software configuration and management.
- Technical support and general troubleshooting.
- Administer high availability/cluster architecture (Veritas Infoscale etc.).
- Administer storage/ san switch architecture
- Manage system and application backup using NetBackup
- Manage data backup and recovery processes, ensuring data integrity and availability in the event of a disaster.
- Manage and lead hardware and software migration and upgrade efforts of varying size and complexity
- Administer application servers like IBM WebSphere
- User account management and Access Review
- Technical Project Management
PREREQUISITES:
- University degree holder
- Required experience as UNIX system administrator (minimum 2 years)
SKILLS:
- Knowledge of UNIX and LINUX operating systems, storage environments, file systems, network protocols.
- Familiarity with UNIX, and LINUX shell scripting
- Veritas NetBackup administration
- Storage and SAN administration
- Desirable experience with RDBMS such as Oracle Database Server and MS SQL Server or noSQL DBMS such as Mongo DB
- Good understanding of replication tools, backup procedures and storage management.
