Metal Can Manufacturers Limited

 

Metal Can Manufacturers Ltd a sister company of Mauritius Oil Refineries Ltd and which specialises in the production of metal cans and bottles for the food and chemical processing industries is looking for a proactive, reliable, and self-motivated Operations Manager who will be responsible to oversee the whole production process.

Main duties will include :

Manufacturing Process

  • Plan, coordinate, and control the manufacturing process;
  • Make sure that metal and plastic cans are produced efficiently;
  • Investigate production issues and develop solutions.

Quality Control

  • Determine quality control standards & perform quality checks in finished products;
  • Inspects materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions;
  • Suggest process improvements to enhance production.

Stock Management

  • Verify quotations before final approval of the Finance & Administrative Manager prior to the acquisition of raw materials;
  • Manage and control stock of raw materials;
  • Ensure that each order is properly done and input all information on designated system
  • Verify that there are enough pallets before proceeding with orders.

Employee Supervision

  • Have a clear view of the daily production activities ;
  • Prepare, supervise, and control production activities and assignment of tasks ;
  • Oversee daily work organisation meetings ;
  • Create a supportive management and team spirit atmosphere to ensure a good collaboration amongst team members;
  • Ensure that employees have adequate supervision and skills in their assigned tasks;
  • Monitor and assess performance of employees, inform them of work-related issues and assist/coach them in case of performance related issues ;
  • Approve time sheets, overtimes, allowances, and other returns to be submitted to HR Department.

Labeling

  • Verify and approve labels design and ensure they are done as per the client’s requirements ( quality checks)
  • Ensure timely follow-up with suppliers so that labels are delivered within prescribed deadlines.

Fleet & Machine Management

  • Keep records of all vehicles (Forklifts and Reach Trucks) and production machines;
  • Perform regular inspection & preventive maintenance on the Company’s fleet, goods lifts, and machines to ensure it is maintained in good conditions;
  • Conduct investigation in case of major damage ;
  • Set up repair schedules in case of major damages (mechanical or electrical) and liaise with the respective agencies ;
  • Oversee investigation in case of accidents or injuries and prepare reports with findings and preventive measures to the attention of the Health & Safety Officer;
  • Oversee coverage and refund with insurance agencies;
  • Perform close monitoring over renewal of fitness and insurance;
  • Order appropriate machines that are necessary in the production process;
  • Oversee the cleanliness of production machines.

Purchasing / Procurement

  • Estimate and prepare budgets for ordering of raw materials, new machinery , etc…
  • Select, order, and purchase raw materials and machines.

Customer & Suppliers Relationship

  • Develop project plans and timelines with customers;
  • Regularly conduct customer visits and resolve complaints when necessary;
  • Visit suppliers abroad to keep good relationships and assess products’ supply chain and quality.

Strategic Planning

  • Work closely with the Finance & Administrative Manager/Managing Director to develop and monitor goals that are consistent with the organization’s strategic plan;
  • Work closely with the Group Human Resources Manager, the Finance & Administrative Manager, and the Managing Director to support the development and monitoring of new and existing organizational plans and projects;

Others

  • Ensure that team members adhere to the Company’s rules and regulations ;
  • Promote a Health & Safety culture within the Department and provide clear explanations regarding safety issues to all stakeholders;
  • Ensure that there is a proper housekeeping ;
  • Assist in employee recruitment, performance evaluation, promotion, retention, and termination activities.

Qualifications / Prerequisites:

  • At least 5 years of working experience in a similar role;
  • At least a BSc in Production Management or any relevant qualifications acceptable by the Company;
  • Holder of a valid car driving licence;
  • Holder of valid certificate of character.

Candidate Profile:

  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills;
  • Strong analytical skills, paying attention to details;
  • Sound knowledge of Quality system standards;
  • Sound knowledge of production machines & emerging technologies;
  • Excellent Organizational, Planning and Time Management Skills;
  • Fully conversant with Microsoft Office;
