Marine and inspection surveyor

As a Marine & Inspection you are responsible to conduct all types of cargo surveys, draft surveys and out-turn surveys. To prepare comprehensive reports within a maximum of 30 days of survey or 7 days from collection of all documents for the completion of the report.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Conduct cargo, container and out-turn surveys: Coordinate with the office coordinators, client and third parties and ensure timely attendance. Attendance to be followed up with a suitable report based on the job scope and in line with best industry practise.
  • Conduct loss adjustments, salvage recovery and cargo value assessment surveys: Coordinate with the office coordinators, client and third parties and ensure timely attendance. Attendance to be followed up with a suitable report based on the job scope and in line with best industry practise.
  • Payment follow-up: Follow up with accounts department to ensure files have been effectively closed.

Marketing Activity: To conduct sales calls to prospective clients such as insurance companies, shipping firms, cargo import/ exporters, with a view to creating business opportunities

HSSE - Health, Safety, Security and Risk (mandatory requirements)

  • Comply with all Health & Safety policies
  • Accountable for assessing HSSE risk and implementing risk controls within area of responsibility
  • Accountable for reporting all accidents, incidents and near misses whether the persons are injured or not
  • Taking action within area of accountability to ensure the HSSE of both the job holder and other persons who may be affected by acts carried out or failed to be carried out by the job holder while at work
  • Ensure full compliance with the ISS HSSE Management System
Key Deliverables:
  • Quality of reports/ findings and correspondence should be consistent with industry practice.Your bunker reports will be expected to be delivered within the same day. Other reports such as Cargo claims will be expected to be completed within a 30 day window or 7 days from receipt of full documentation.
  • All reports to be peer reviewed and you will provide the same service in return to your colleagues.
  • Ability to work under stress and long hours
  • Marketing and liaising with existing clients. After a 6 month probation period we would expect that you visit at least 1 client a month and generate 3 leads in the financial year.
  • Reports and invoices generated on a monthly basis on all jobs completed in that month.
  • General interaction and cooperation with co-workers.
Education and Professional Qualifications:
  • Computer literate and related internal systems
  • 2-3 years’ experience in similar role.
  • Good knowledge of shipping
  • Good communication skills,  Analytical thinking
  • Maintain confidentiality

Desirable:

  • Quality of reports/ findings and correspondence should be consistent with industry practice.
  • Ability to work under stress and long hours
  • Number of new clients brought in, marketing and liaising with existing clients.
  • Reports and invoices generated on a monthly basis
  • General interaction and cooperation with co-workers.
