Overall Purpose:

 

The position is primarily responsible for overseeing and coordinating the University’s research and knowledge exchange portfolio. This role involves building research and knowledge exchange capacity, placing equal importance on both academic staff and students to ensure high-quality research outputs. The person in this position will also be responsible for all aspects of research and knowledge exchange support, as well as quality enhancement for postgraduate research provision.

 

Strategic Roles:

  • Develop and implement strategies and plans to grow research, knowledge exchange, and third-stream income streams.
  • Promote and enhance quality and integrity in research, knowledge exchange, and postgraduate studies.
  • Develop capacity to conduct research, knowledge exchange, secure grants and generate third-stream funding.
  • Foster a community of practice for research, knowledge exchange (RKE), postgraduate studies, and income-generating initiatives.
  • Facilitate the provision of institutional data and reports for decision-making purposes.

 

Operational Functions:

  • Coordinate and oversee portfolio areas, including managing the subject cluster RKE leads and developing an effective campus RKE network.
  • Ensure that academic staff receive support and professional development in all aspects of research, knowledge exchange, and research supervision.
  • Oversee executive education programs and short learning courses, collaborating with the business development manager and relevant academic lead to ensure alignment with institutional goals and financial sustainability.
  • Support and promote the development of funding proposals for research and knowledge exchange.
  • Maintain high standards for postgraduate programs.
  • Develop and manage budgets for research and knowledge exchange activities.
  • Prepare reports on research and knowledge exchange activities and outputs.
  • Monitor the progress of research, knowledge exchange initiatives, research projects, and income-generating activities.
  • Represent the University at relevant institutional and external meetings and events.
  • Chair and participate in campus and university committees and working groups as required by the Academic Director.
  • Undertake student research supervision and/or teaching as needed by the Academic Director.

 

Research, Practice, Scholarship and Consultancy:

  • Conduct personal research and engage in scholarly activities that enhance the profile of the campus and university.
  • Collaborate with others or work independently to develop proposals and secure competitive funding for research or knowledge exchange projects.
  • Oversee and, when appropriate, lead the development of major research initiatives, knowledge exchange projects, and short learning courses.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to positively impacting society through research and knowledge exchange.

 

General Functions:

  • To participate in the University staff appraisal scheme and other relevant activities
  • To undertake any other duties as shall be reasonably requested
  • To develop and maintain institutional repositories and databases

  • A Doctorate qualification in a relevant discipline is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting research, knowledge exchange, and scholarly activities in relevant subject areas, along with high-level engagement in professional practice.
  • Professional Teaching Qualification or equivalent
 

Experience

  • Proven track record in building capacity for research and knowledge exchange, and/or developing third-stream income streams.
  • Evidence of leadership in research, knowledge exchange, and / or third-stream income initiatives, showcasing successful performance outcomes.
  • Documented experience in securing competitive research grants and/or tenders, illustrating the ability to attract funding.
