The Handyman carries out general repair, maintenance, and upkeep across common areas, offices, and building facilities, ensuring a safe, clean, and functional environment through day-to-day repairs including minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance
- Perform routine inspections and minor repairs in common areas, restrooms, corridors, staircases, parking areas, and office spaces.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests submitted by tenants or property management.
- Repair and maintain doors, locks, tiles, drywall, ceilings, office furniture, signage, and fixtures.
- Ensure office spaces are maintained in accordance with building standards before and after tenant occupancy.
2. Painting, Carpentry & Plumbing
- Carry out touch-up painting, wall patching, and minor surface repairs in offices and common areas.
- Install, adjust, or repair shelves, doors, partitions, cabinets, and basic woodwork.
- Perform minor plumbing tasks such as unclogging drains, fixing leaks, replacing taps, washers, and valves (non-licensed work only).
3. Equipment & Facilities Support
- Safely operate hand and power tools required for maintenance tasks.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance on tools and building fixtures as instructed.
- Assist with office fit-outs, furniture movement, workstation setup, and minor reconfigurations.
- Support maintenance of meeting rooms, reception areas, and shared facilities.
4. Safety & Emergency Support
- Respond to emergency situations including water leaks, electrical faults (non-certified), broken fittings, or access issues.
- Identify, report, and rectify potential safety hazards where possible.
- Assist with fire safety readiness by checking emergency exits, lighting, signage, and access routes.
- Support evacuation drills and building safety procedures as required.
5. Coordination & Documentation
- Coordinate with external contractors for specialized or large-scale repairs.
- Maintain accurate records of completed tasks, incidents, and materials used in maintenance logs or work order systems.
- Monitor stock of basic maintenance supplies and inform the supervisor when replenishment is required.
6. On-Call & Emergency Response
- Be available for on-call duties or emergency assistance during or outside normal working hours, as required.
- Support building management during power failures, water supply issues, fire alarms, or other building-related incidents.
Job Requirements
- Certificate or training in general maintenance, building services, or a related field is an advantage.
- Minimum 1 years’ experience as a handyman preferably in an office building, commercial property, or mixed-use development.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general repairs.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve common building maintenance issues.
- Physically fit and able to lift, climb ladders, and perform manual repair work.
- Strong communication skills with a professional and service-oriented approach when dealing with tenants and staff.
