Job Overview

We are looking for a proactive, solutions-driven HR Assistant to support and contribute to the development and implementation of strategic HR initiatives across the business. The ideal candidate will work closely with management and staff to ensure a productive, motivated, and well-aligned workforce. This role requires a strong understanding of HR functions, excellent communication skills, and a passion for driving culture and employee engagement.

Key Responsibilities


HR Planning & Workforce Alignment
  • Work with leadership to ensure HR plans align with organisational goals.
  • Maintain a medium to long-term view of staffing needs, territories, and focus areas.
  • Proactively support organisational growth and avoid reactive HR practices.

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Develop and execute recruitment strategies.
  • Benchmark roles and compensation with industry standards.
  • Manage full-cycle recruitment: sourcing, interviews, shortlisting, communication, and offer letters.
  • Coordinate onboarding and integration of new hires.

Performance Management

  • Implement and maintain effective performance management tools and templates.
  • Set review timelines and ensure accountability across departments.
  • Support managers with performance conversations and documentation.
  • Participate in the design and roll-out of incentive programmes.

Career Pathing & Succession Planning

  • Engage with staff to understand aspirations and identify development opportunities.
  • Map out clear career paths and growth trajectories.
  • Assist with succession planning to ensure business continuity.

Learning & Development

  • Drive a continuous learning culture across the business.
  • Support both soft and technical skills development.
  • Monitor training budgets and ensure alignment with business needs.
  • Evaluate and update training strategies based on feedback and results.

Payroll, Leave, and HR Admin

  • Oversee payroll administration via PaySpace (in collaboration with third-party providers).
  • Ensure accurate statutory compliance and contributions.
  • Manage leave schedules proactively and maintain proper records.
  • Keep HR documentation, including staff handbooks, current and relevant.

Labour Law Compliance

  • Stay informed of changes in local labour laws and communicate relevant updates.
  • Handle staff grievances and queries professionally and in compliance with regulations.
  • Support the organisation in upholding fair and legal HR practices.

Communication & Conflict Management

  • Be a trusted, neutral point of contact for staff.
  • Help identify and resolve workplace issues early.
  • Promote open, respectful communication and contribute to a healthy workplace culture.
  • Leverage knowledge of local languages and cultural dynamics where necessary.

Staff Welfare & Culture

  • Plan and execute team-building activities and social initiatives.
  • Support employee wellbeing through proactive engagement and support programmes.
  • Contribute to building a strong, motivated, and values-aligned team.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related field.
  • 2+ years’ experience in an HR support or generalist role.
  • Working knowledge of labour laws and HR practices in Mauritius.
  • Familiarity with PaySpace or similar HRIS platforms is an advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and emotional intelligence.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
