Our client is seeking to recruit a Distribution Manager who will report to the Director. The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations involved in the storage, handling, and distribution of perishable goods.
This role ensures timely, safe, and cost-effective delivery of fresh products from the farm to retail outlets, distribution centers, or end customers, while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:
Logistics & Distribution:
- Coordinate outbound logistics for the freshly produced product.
- Schedule and manage deliveries to ensure freshness and minimize spoilage.
- Optimize routes and delivery schedules for efficiency and timeliness.
Inventory & Supply Chain Management:
- Monitor inventory levels of perishable goods to avoid overstocking or shortages.
- Collaborate with farm manager and team to manage stock rotation (FIFO).
- Maintain accurate records of product movement and inventory.
Quality Control & Food Safety:
- Ensure all fresh food items meet quality and safety standards.
- Implement and enforce hygiene, temperature control, and handling procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits in line with food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, FSMA).
Team Management:
- Supervise distribution staff including drivers, pickers, and logistics coordinators.
- Provide training on handling and transporting fresh food.
- Monitor team performance and enforce company policies.
Compliance & Reporting:
- Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal transportation and food safety regulations.
- Prepare reports on distribution performance, shrinkage, and delivery metrics.
- Address issues related to delays, product returns, and customer complaints.
Profile:
- At least 5+ years of experience in food distribution or logistics, preferably with fresh/perishable goods.
- Experience with ERP systems.
- Certification in food safety (e.g., HACCP, ServSafe).
- Familiarity with sustainability practices in food distribution.
- Knowledge of cold chain logistics and food safety standards.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in inventory and logistics software (e.g., WMS, TMS).
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
Working Conditions:
- Work in temperature-controlled environments (cold storage).
- Early morning, evening, or weekend shifts may be required.
- Frequent travel between distribution centers and retail locations.
