Field operators/investigators are hired to go out in the world and discovers information related to a client or employer's wishes. He or she then compiles all valid information, writes up a report for the client with all the findings and supplies an overall summary of the case.

Exact job duties vary by investigation, but core tasks are usually the same. A field investigator performs research online/offline, at libraries and by referencing creative sources to track down information or addresses. Once in the field, a field investigator can spend time following and observing a person with surveillance (inclusive of photos/videos) to have proof of the information gathered.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following is a non-exhaustive list of duties:

• To gather information through the most appropriate method as agreed by the company. (May include interviewing, second level research etc).
• To perform relevant surveillance/investigation as per management request.
• To constantly inform management of information gathered.
• To perform simulations required for the proof gathering.
• To pro-actively inform management of the best method to gather the information/proof required for a particular investigation.
• To develop and maintain a network of contacts in the field who can potentially provide information relative to the necessary investigation.
• To perform any electronic recording (photos/videos/audio) as required for the information gathering/proof collection.
• To assist and perform any administrative/legal procedures as required per process for the said investigations and/or any process relevant to/on behalf of the customer requirements.
• To produce and file all the necessary findings in the relevant reports as per company document management processes.
• To assist any regulatory/legal process for which the investigation is being performed.
• To provide any police statements of findings as necessary.
• To act as a potential witness in court if necessary.
• To perform any cognate duties to this relevant job function.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role does not require any supervisory responsibilities.

Degree of Independence/Supervision

• Requires minimal supervisions on the job.
• Needs to constantly inform management of information gathered and seek instructions from management/customer on the required actions.
• Should not independently decide on any actions within an investigation without approval of management as this may jeopardise the case in court.
• Minimum of SC
• Compulsory to have valid motor cycle and car licence.
• At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role desired.

Qualifications and Experience

A lesser qualification may be accepted if this is compensated by suitable demonstrable real world experience.

Skills

Essential technical skills required are:

• Computer literate. Should be able to draft simple reports.
• Should be able to suitably use electronic recording equipment’s (audio recorder, photo and video cameras).
• Ability to follow precise processes/instructions.
• Can have good inter-personal and negotiations skills.
