Health & Safety Officer

The selected candidate shall work in close collaboration with the company and its sister companies so as to comply with the current Safety and Health legislation in order to ensure that proper measures are being put in place.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Carry out regular occupational safety and health audits to identify risks to safety and health.
  2. Assess the need for preventive measures to safeguard the safety and health of employees and any other person not in the employment of the employer.
  3. Provide professional advice, training & communications to ensure that employees at all levels understand their responsibilities and help them to conduct their activities in a safe manner.
  4. Design and implement appropriate training programmes to meet the requirements of OSHA 2005 and any other enactment dealing with occupational safety and health, and keep proper records thereof.
  5. Review any measure, method, procedure or technique adopted to ensure occupational safety and health and keep proper records thereof.
  6. Recommend in writing to the employer appropriate occupational safety and health programmes, where the circumstances so justify.
  7. Ensure that Health & Safety induction is done with all new recruits in the company.
  8. Develop effective communication systems on occupational safety and health between the employer and any employee.
  9. Ensure that there is a proper inspection of all places at least every month and record the findings.
  10. Provide adequate supervision to ensure the effective implementation of arrangements made and preventive measures taken, by the employer.
  11. Ensure a process for two-way H&S communication is put in place with forums where relevant to ensure continued employee awareness. Ensure that a regular communication process is implemented to keep relevant parties updated on progress with H&S plans.
  12. Investigates incidents involving personnel, plant and equipment. Analyses causes and determines future action to prevent these occurrences.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Atleast 2-3 years of experience as registered Safety and Health Officer
  • Experience in training and coaching.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Proactive
