Overall Responsibility

The Chainman shall assist the Surveying team in carrying out accurate site measurements, setting out works, and surveying activities on construction sites to ensure projects are executed according to approved drawings and specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist members of the Surveying team in conducting land and construction surveys.
• Support in the proper fixing of boundary pegging, benchmarks and any other reference points on site.
• Hold and position the measuring chain, tape, prism pole, leveling staff, or other survey equipment as instructed.
• Clear obstacles or vegetation where necessary to allow accurate measurements.
• Mark survey points using pegs, stakes, flags, paint, or other markers.
• Assist in carrying, handling, and maintaining surveying instruments such as total stations, levels, GPS equipment, and tripods.
• Ensure survey equipment is properly stored, cleaned, and protected from damage.
• Record basic field notes as directed by the Surveyor.
• Follow site safety procedures and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
• Perform any other cognate duties related to surveying and site measurement as may be assigned by the Surveyor or Management.
