Agriterra is seeking a Manager – Mechanical Maintenance & Front End to lead mechanical maintenance and front-end milling operations, ensuring optimal plant performance, safety and efficiency.

 

Agriterra is seeking a Manager – Mechanical Maintenance & Front End to lead mechanical maintenance and front-end milling operations, ensuring optimal plant performance, safety and efficiency.

Key Tasks:

  • Lead and oversee Front End operations, including Cane Handling, Preparation, and Milling.
  • Plan, organise, and supervise all mechanical maintenance and repair activities.
  • Ensure machinery and equipment operate in line with design specifications while minimising downtime.
  • Provide engineering support to production teams and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor maintenance and labour costs, contributing to budget preparation and cost control.
  • Manage inventory and stock levels of spare parts and maintenance materials.
  • Lead, coach, and develop maintenance teams to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Food Safety standards.
  • Contribute to lean management, operational excellence, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare and optimise plant readiness ahead of crop season to achieve minimum downtime.
Candidate Profile:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in mechanical maintenance within sugar processing, food manufacturing, heavy industry, or similar industrial environments
  • Proven hands-on experience with rotating equipment, conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, and milling equipment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose faults and implement effective solutions
  • Experience leading or supervising maintenance teams will be an advantage
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Well organised, structured, and able to manage competing priorities
  • Strong understanding of safety and quality procedures in an industrial setting
