The Mechanic Automotive Heavy Vehicle will inspect, diagnose, and repair automotive vehicles and heavy machinery.
Main duties
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair automotive vehicles and heavy machinery (e.g., trucks, loaders, excavators).
- Identify minor and major defects in engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering systems, and auxiliary components.
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on heavy mechanical units.
- Perform engine overhauls, brake repairs, suspension adjustments, and general mechanical repairs.
- Repair, recondition, tune overhaul, and reassemble engines, gearboxes, final drives, and associated components.
- Perform precision mechanical tasks such as valve grinding, fitting pistons and piston rings, and setting working clearances.
- Monitor vehicle performance and report any mechanical issues or maintenance needs.
- Maintain accurate service and repair records.
- Always adhere to safety protocols and procedures including the use of personal protective equipment and safety practices.
Profile
- Proven experience in heavy mechanical maintenance and repair.
- Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines.
- Flexibility to work odd hours.
- Good communication skills.
- Good troubleshooting, problem-solving and team work skills.
Qualification & Experience
- Technical or vocational training in automotive or heavy equipment mechanics preferred.
- At least 2 years' relevant work experience.
