Job Purpose

The Officer / Senior Officer - Payments is responsible for ensuring the accurate, timely, and compliant processing of payment transactions, including inward and outward remittances, in line with regulatory, SWIFT, and internal control requirements.

The role supports day-to-day payments operations through effective transaction input and validation, investigation and resolution of payment-related queries, reconciliation of Nostro accounts, and adherence to cut-off times and service level standards.

The position also contributes to operational excellence by supervising and supporting team members during peak periods, promoting cross-training and knowledge sharing, maintaining high standards of accuracy and control, and actively participating in process improvement, streamlining, and automation initiatives. The role works closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth payments processing and continuous enhancement of service delivery within the Shared Services.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Process, input, and validate local and international payment transactions in accordance with SWIFT MX message standards, internal procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Apply sound knowledge of inward and outward remittance requirements to ensure accurate and timely execution of payments.
  • Handle payment-related queries, investigation cases, claims for charges, and SWIFT investigation messages, ensuring prompt resolution and effective stakeholder communication.
  • Perform and support the reconciliation of Nostro accounts
  • Utilize the Finacle Core Banking Platform to support efficient payments processing and operational accuracy.
  • Actively participate in day-to-day payments operations, ensuring adherence to established procedures and service level standards.
  • Ensure all cut-off times are strictly adhered to, with appropriate follow-ups and escalations carried out where required.
  • Supervise and review work performed by team members to maintain high standards of accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Provide operational support, on-the-job coaching, and mentorship to team members, particularly during peak periods, to maximize performance and capability.
  • Promote cross-training within the team and ensure necessary job-related training and knowledge transfer are conducted.
  • Foster effective communication within the team and encourage the sharing of knowledge, best practices, and skills.
  • Ensure all operational controls are performed accurately and in line with internal control frameworks and audit requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by proposing and driving initiatives related to process streamlining, automation, and operational efficiency.
  • Carry out any other cognate duties related to the role as may be assigned by management.

What are we looking for

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Finance, Banking, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 1 to 3 years’ experience in a similar role within a banking or financial services environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with a high level of accuracy and quality focus.
  • Self-motivated and results-driven, with a strong commitment to achieving individual and organizational performance objectives.
  • Proactive mindset, with the ability to identify issues and take initiative to resolve them.
  • Ability to manage priorities and meet tight operational deadlines.
