Our client in Port Louis is looking for an assistant accountant
Working days & hours:
Monday – Friday
8: 30 – 17: 00
Saturday
8: 30 – 12: 30
The main responsibilities of the job are hereunder:
1. Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Assist in maintaining accurate financial records and ledgers.
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Reconcile bank statements, supplier accounts, and customer accounts.
- Update accounting software with daily transactions.
2. Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process supplier invoices and ensure timely payments.
- Prepare payment batches and obtain required approvals.
- Issue customer invoices and follow up on outstanding payments.
- Maintain aged receivables and payables reports.
3. Financial Reporting
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing.
- Support the preparation of management accounts.
- Provide necessary data for audits, budgets, and forecasts.
4. Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure proper filing of all accounting documents.
- Assist with VAT returns, TDS, and other statutory requirements.
- Support the external auditors with requested documentation.
5. Administrative Support
- Prepare financial summaries and analysis as requested.
- Support ad-hoc tasks assigned by the Accountant or Finance Manager.
Qualifications & Skills
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a similar role.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SICORAX).
- Strong knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas).
- Good understanding of basic accounting principles.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
