To support laboratory operations by assisting in specimen handling, basic testing procedures, equipment preparation, and administrative tasks, ensuring accurate, timely, and safe laboratory services in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards.
Assist in the collection, labeling, and proper handling of patient specimens (blood, urine, stool, swabs, etc.) under supervision.
Ensure correct identification of samples and adherence to collection protocols.
Prepare specimens for analysis, storage, or referral to external laboratories.
Assist Laboratory Technologists with routine laboratory tests and procedures.
Prepare reagents, solutions, and materials required for testing.
Perform basic laboratory tests as assigned and within competency level.
Ensure test results are accurately recorded and communicated to senior staff.
Clean, prepare, and maintain laboratory equipment and workstations.
Assist with calibration, basic maintenance, and monitoring of laboratory instruments.
Ensure proper disposal of biomedical waste in accordance with safety protocols.
Enter patient and test data accurately into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) / Hospital Information System (HIS).
Assist with filing, documentation, and record-keeping of laboratory reports.
Support the preparation and dispatch of laboratory reports to clinicians and departments.
Follow all laboratory safety, infection control, and biosafety guidelines.
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly at all times.
Report incidents, spills, or equipment malfunction immediately.
Greet and guide patients professionally during specimen collection.
Provide clear instructions to patients regarding sample collection when required.
Maintain patient confidentiality and professional conduct at all times.
Adhere to laboratory policies, SOPs, and quality control procedures.
Assist during internal audits, inspections, and accreditation processes.
Ensure compliance with Ministry of Health and clinic regulatory standards.
