The Head of Cancer Centre will lead oncology services, driving excellent patient care, strong clinical outcomes, innovation, and sustainable operations. The role works closely with multidisciplinary teams and partners, focusing on quality, efficiency, staff development, and patient experience.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION 

The Head of Cancer Centre will provide strategic and operational leadership for C-Care’s oncology services, ensuring exceptional patient care, clinical outcomes, innovation, and financial sustainability. This role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and external partners, with a strong focus on quality indicators, process efficiency, staff development, and patient experience. The role also serves as a key member of the Cancer Steering Committee (SteerCo).

Main Duties/Responsibilities

1. Strategic and Operational Leadership

Develop and implement the overall cancer strategy for C-Care (across CROI, Wellkin, Floreal, and satellites). Develop and implement a unified cancer strategy across all C-Care sites.

Ensure strategic alignment with COO and cross-functional stakeholders. Liaise with Head of Business and Doctors' Relationship, and Head of Corporate & Marketing to align on revenue, doctor strategy, and patient acquisition/retention.

Create and monitor referral networks.

Lead long-term planning for oncology services aligned with clinical excellence and financial sustainability.

Monitor and evaluate outcomes, ensuring continuous quality improvement in line with CHKS.

Lead integration of care between radiotherapy, medical oncology, surgical oncology, diagnostics, and support services.

 

2. Multisite Integration & Service Standardisation

Oversee seamless integration of services across sites (medical oncology, radiotherapy, surgical oncology, palliative care, etc.).

Harmonize clinical protocols, SOPs, and quality assurance across CROI, Floreal, and Wellkin.

Lead monthly cross-site cancer board meetings for alignment.

 

3. Patient Journey and Navigation

Design and maintain a clear, mapped-out patient journey from screening to survivorship or palliative care.

Implement and monitor a centralised Care system for all cancer patients.

Champion the “single point of contact” model for all patient/family queries.

Ensure real-time resolution of patient concerns via feedback loops.

4. Chemo Lab Centralisation & Clinical Efficiency

Oversee centralised chemotherapy preparation in compliance with safety, traceability, and pharmacological standards.

Collaborate with pharmacy, nursing, and QA to reduce medication errors, wastage, and delays.

Ensure compliance with cytotoxic handling protocols (USP 800-equivalent).

 

Doctor Strategy and Medical Engagement

Work with Head of Doctors' Relationship to define and execute a comprehensive doctor recruitment, retention, and engagement strategy.

Establish and lead monthly multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings across oncology disciplines.

Support clinical autonomy while aligning performance with KPIs and standards.

Drive the “Happy Doctors” initiative – addressing needs, training gaps, and incentives.

 

Corporate, Marketing, and Referral Network Alignment

Partner with Head of Corporate and Marketing to:

Drive awareness campaigns (breast, prostate, cervical, etc.).

Position C-Care as the regional oncology leader.

Strengthen and manage local and international referral networks (insurance, GPs, specialists).

 

Drug Access and Pharma Partnerships

Negotiate with pharmaceutical companies for:

Early-access programs

Expanded drug availability

Cost-sharing models or compassionate-use schemes

Monitor and increase patient access to new drugs.

 

Quality, Compliance, and Innovation

Ensure all oncology activities meet accreditation standards (CHKS) and regulatory requirements (RSNSA).

Lead internal audits and coordinate external inspections.

Encourage innovation, clinical trials, and use of real-world evidence (RWE) to support decisions.

 

Financial Perspective

Ensure effective utilization of the chemotherapy ward by driving collaboration with the Business Developer/Activity Manager to improve bed turnover, occupancy rates, and scheduling practices.

Hold Finance and HR accountable for providing timely data and insights to monitor and control staff cost as a percentage of revenue and drive necessary adjustments to stay within targets.

Lead initiatives with the Business Developer/Activity Manager to generate revenue through the development of new clinical programs, outreach activities, and strategic partnerships.

Work with the Finance team to ensure regularly monitors and reports on cost-efficiency across key services, including drug procurement, diagnostics, and radiotherapy, and follow through on actions required to optimize spending.

 

Key Skills and Competencies 

Qualifications

Formal education required for competence in the job

Bachelors degree in management/administration

Experience

 

 

Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in oncology services, cancer centre

management, or hospital operations.

Proven track record in strategic planning, service development

Experience in managing budgets, resources, and large clinical/operational teams.

Knowledge & Technical Competencies

Registrations, Affiliations, Professional Certifications

In-depth knowledge of oncology care pathways, clinical protocols, and cancer treatment

modalities.

Strong understanding of healthcare quality standards, accreditation frameworks, and regulatory

compliance.

Proficiency in health service planning, data-driven decision making, and use of oncology-related

information systems.
