About the job

The Community Education Officer will work within the MWF Education team to:

  • Maintain and develop effective relationships with stakeholders, including communities, partners and suppliers.
  • Set up events such as workshops, meetings, visits and other outreach actions as per the Education Action Plan.
  • Liaise with both colleagues and external partners and suppliers to ensure the smooth running of the programme.
  • Assist and/or conduct awareness sessions, educational visits and monitoring trips with stakeholders.
  • Handle unexpected and last-minute changes and cancellations effectively.
  • Collect, enter and maintain datasheets for the programme accurately.
  • Conduct evaluations, analyse data and assess the impact of the projects.
  • Produce internal reports and notes of meetings and support external communications and reporting.

Requirements:

  • University graduate degree in Social Sciences, preferably in Social Work, Social Education or Education or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ working experience, preferably in community engagement or advocacy within an environmental, social or education setting.
  • Proven organisational skills in setting up effective activities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to motivate individuals to take action.
  • Proficient in English, French (written and spoken) and Creole (spoken).
  • Valid driving license (car).
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office 365, including applications such as Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal office hours, weekends and public holidays.

Desirable abilities, experience and skills:

  • Demonstrated liking for activities in nature, plants and animals.
  • Understanding of biodiversity in Mauritius and other environmental issues.
  • Outreach or training experience.
  • Physically fit to undertake outdoor activities, including islet visits.
  • Comfortable driving long distances.
  • Comfortable travelling by boat.
