Job Role
The IT Officer is responsible for assisting in the support, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the bank’s IT systems and applications. Working under the supervision of senior IT staff, the IT Officer helps ensure the availability and smooth functioning of banking systems, contributing to effective daily operations and customer service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Application Support
- Provide first-level support for banking systems and applications (e.g., core banking, internet banking, payments).
- Assist users with technical issues by logging, tracking, and resolving support requests.
- Escalate unresolved issues to senior team members or vendors as required.
- Help ensure that End-of-Day (EOD) processing is completed as per the established checklist.
Incident Logging & Follow-up
- Record and monitor support issues using the internal helpdesk or incident management tool.
- Assist in basic root cause identification and document solutions provided.
- Keep users informed on the status of their requests or issues.
- Assist in preparing daily/weekly system support status reports as required by the IT department.
Routine System Checks & Maintenance
- Support routine maintenance activities such as monitoring logs, checking backups, and verifying system health.
- Help apply patches or updates under supervision.
- Report any system irregularities to the IT Operations team promptly.
User Assistance & Documentation
- Assist in onboarding users on banking applications (e.g., setting up access, basic training).
- Maintain and update user manuals or simple FAQs based on common issues.
- Provide clear and simple instructions to users on system use and troubleshooting steps.
Support During Testing & Deployments
- Assist in basic testing of applications or changes under guidance from senior staff.
- Participate in system validations during deployments or upgrades.
Reporting & Data Extraction
- Assist in developing simple application reports based on user or business requirements using SQL or built-in reporting tools.
- Coordinate with users to understand reporting requirements and translate them into structured queries or report templates.
- Validate data accuracy and formatting of reports before submission to stakeholders.
- Maintain documentation of commonly used reports and queries to ensure repeatability and reduce errors.
Technical Skills & Competencies:
- Basic understanding of banking or enterprise applications.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with Windows OS, Microsoft Office, and basic networking concepts.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new systems and procedures.
- Good communication skills for interacting with users and team members.
- Ability to follow instructions and work within standard operating procedures.
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 0–2 years of experience in an IT support or helpdesk role (experience in banking is an advantage).
