First Capital Shared Services Ltd is looking to hire a motivated Junior Data Engineer to join its IT Team, reporting to the Manager, IT Data and Analytics.

The Junior Data Engineer will be responsible for building, automating, and maintaining data pipelines and integration processes to ensure high-quality, clean, and reliable data is available for reporting, analytics, and business operations. The role involves sourcing structured and unstructured data from banking systems and external sources, optimizing data infrastructure, and collaborating with business, IT, and analytics teams to deliver scalable and fit-for-purpose data solutions aligned with the Group’s data strategy and governance practices.

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering and Governance

  • Assist the Data Architect in the design and implementation of data pipelines.
  • Build high-quality and automated data pipelines and optimize ETL/ELT processes.
  • Contribute to maintaining an ecosystem that supports consistent data quality and integrity.
  • Ensure assigned BAU and change deliverables are completed within committed SLAs and timelines.
  • Ensure solutions are compliant with data security, regulatory, and internal compliance requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of architecture, models, processes, changes, and implementations.
  • Perform continuous optimization of data pipeline performance, queries, and ETL processes.
  • Develop data pipelines and related automation using approved technologies, including AI-enabled tools where applicable.
  • Document data issues and collaborate with system owners to resolve root causes.
  • Assist in implementing monitoring mechanisms for data pipelines aligned with SLAs.
  • Support management of data storage layers, backup and restore practices, planned downtimes, upgrades, and access control.
  • Contribute to the reusability of developed solutions and frameworks across applicable environments.

Stakeholder Engagement and Management

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify functional and technical requirements.
  • Use ticket management solutions to track incidents, service requests, and change requests
  • Provide support to team members to ensure alignment, understanding, and quality deliverables.
  • Collaborate with business, IT, and analytics teams to ensure access to accurate, cleansed, and structured data.
  • Work with vendors or external parties when required to support data pipeline development.
  • Provide updates on assigned tasks, milestones, risks, and incidents to relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in workshops, meetings, and discussions to refine requirements.
  • Communicate delays, risks, or issues affecting deliverables in a timely manner.

Project Management

  • Support project planning activities, timelines, and task tracking.
  • Monitor progress of assigned tasks and assist in resolving development issues.
  • Communicate progress and document deliverables.
  • Contribute to post-implementation reviews and improvement initiatives.

Continuous Improvement

  •  Identify enhancements to existing systems and processes to improve efficiency and user experience.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies, trends, and best practices.
  • Continuously develop understanding of business processes and use of technology.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum a Degree preferably in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analytics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum 1 year of work experience in a similar role, preferably in the banking sector or Financial Services.
  • Understanding of data warehouse concepts, data platforms, data architecture principles, and data governance frameworks.
  • Experience building automated data pipelines from multiple data sources.
  • Good proficiency in programming and scripting within the data engineering landscape (e.g., Python, SQL, Java) and good  knowledge of Oracle SQL, data modelling, database design, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge and application of machine learning or AI methods would constitute an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies, Agile ways of working, and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) frameworks.
  • Relevant certifications in data management, data querying and manipulation, BI Tools or programming languages (e.g. Python, Java) would be an added advantage.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and countries.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with awareness of information security, infrastructure, networking, database management, data encryption, and compliance standards.
