Scope of Job

The Account Executive will build and maintain business relationships with clients, insurance companies and any other stakeholders as needed ensuring they receive high service levels. Gathering information from clients to build client needs analysis and negotiating terms with insurers to meet these needs is the core scope of this role. This is done by using technical knowledge of the insurance products as well as experience and knowledge of the insurance market, particularly in Africa.

Duties:

Sales & New Business development
  • Engage with the identified management companies and actively build relationships with the key individuals in these companies in a bid to receive enquiries and opportunities to provide terms for their clients.
  • Identify other opportunities that could drive new business opportunities and actively drive these for results.
Technical Broking & Relationship Management
  • Gathering, reviewing and organised management of relevant client documentation in order to comprehensively understand the clients business and insurance requirements.
  • Using above, conduct Client Needs Analysis process for all clients. This is critical to understanding and
    recording clients insurance and risk management needs.
  • Using Clients Needs Analysis, create specification sheets for the insurance classes to be quoted on and submit to the relevant markets for terms.
  • Receive terms, analyse and negotiate with insurers where necessary.
  • Compile terms and/or comparisons for submission to client.
  • Present terms to the client (along with Senior Account Exec where necessary) and deal with queries, further information and any adjustments to quoted terms requested by the client.
  • Upon receiving binding instructions from clients, bind cover with insurers through accurate and comprehensive placing slips.
  • Follow correct process for any mid-term adjustments to policies.
  • Always ensure the following processes are completed for every client and every policy:
  • Checking all policies (schedules, wordings and any additional docs) for accuracy and to ensure terms align with specs and clients' needs analysis.
  • Explain coverage, exclusions, subjectivities, warranties and any other key terms to clients.
  • Renewal processes are started sufficiently in advance to ensure ample time for market exercise, negotiations and client interaction where and when required.
  • Perform as day-to-day contact point for specific portfolio of clients, always providing efficient on-time and scheduled responses to clients and insurers and dealing with client queries in a prompt and accurate manner.
  • Ensure compliance at all times with the relevant Acts/Regulations relating to insurance to ensure that exposure is avoided.
Administration and Credit Control
  • Maintain well organised storage folders in line with company standards and policies ensuring all relevant source documentation and communications are available at all times.
  • Ensure clear, concise and comprehensive post-binding handover to administrative division to aid efficient and accurate loading and follow up.
  • Ensure procedures are followed with regards to company KYC and compliance requirements.
  • Assist administrative division with compliance/KYC follow ups where required.
  • Responsible for credit control and premium collection up to the point of the company (cash policies) or insurer receipt (insurer collect).
  • Drive weekly follow-up of outstanding debtors in accordance with finance departments requirements.
  • Contact clients to ensure payments are up to date and escalate to MD where necessary.
Claims Control

Play active role in the claims process always ensuring:

  • Claims Handler has access to all relevant policy docs, endorsements and supporting information at all
    times.
  • Active involvement in reviewing and discussing relevant policy terms and clauses.
  • Learnings from claims are applied to future negotiations and policies to ensure any gaps identified through this process are covered in future.
Marketing
  • Represent the company through industry events, conferences and other opportunities when required.
  • Always appropriately present the image of the company to clients whether through face-to-face dealings, over
    the phone or on email.
  • Remain active on LinkedIn and other corporate channels including networking and sharing, liking content generated by the company and sharing industry news and information where relevant.
Training & Culture
  • Set a positive example to others regarding punctuality, work ethic and professionalism.
  • Identify training and/or studying opportunities for yourself or the team to align with the 'always on' learning initiative of the company.
  • Adopt an attitude of continual learning and growth in your career path.
Skills Requirements: 
  • Relevant Insurance qualification and experience.
  • Possessing a thorough understanding and technical knowledge of the major classes of insurance which
    the Company, and in particular the division, offers to its clients and keeping abreast of all new technical
    and Product developments. This includes (non-exhaustive): Directors & Officers, Professional Indemnity/Errors & Omissions, Crime, Cyber Liability.
  • Work experience at an insurance broking firm would be an advantage.
  • Familiarity and compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage time.
  • High level of ccomputer literacy (Outlook, Power Point, Excel, MS Word, Graphs/Presentations).
Personal Requirements:
  • Attention to detail is a must.
  • Professional verbal & written communication in English (French is beneficial).
  • Show initiative and advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Show accountability and ownership of tasks.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to work under pressure.
  • The ability to work without supervision and at irregular hours when required.
  • Must be able to function within a team - a team player.
  • Ability to deal with high profile clients.
  • Show enthusiasm, commitment, initiative & promptness.
  • Available to travel for training purposes and occasional client meetings
  • Reliability essential.
