About the Role:
We are seeking a reliable and hands-on Food Counter Assistant to support a small Italian food store. The role involves preparing and serving a variety of products, from fresh-cooked items to pre-prepared foods. You will be working alongside the business owner who will guide and train you in all aspects of the job.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with food, is willing to learn, and thrives in a small but dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Product Preparation & Serving
Fresh Cooked Items (Most Complex):
- Prepare and cook panzerotti from fresh dough (training provided)
- Use a fryer safely (product can reach 180°C – safety gear provided)
- Handle cooked products with care and place them to drain properly
Reheated Items (Moderate Complexity):- Warm pasta or ravioli in the oven (7–8 mins), and garnish with parmesan
- Heat and serve focaccia or pizza slices (cold or warm), usin gloves/protection
- Serve with tissue or fork when necessary
Ready-to-Serve Items (Simple):- Pick desserts and soft drinks (e.g. tea, soda, Coke) from the fridge
- Serve with fork and tissue where needed
2. General Duties- Ensure the food prep area and kitchen are clean during and at the end of the day
- Take ingredients in/out of the fridge as needed throughout the shift
- Wrap and serve food appropriately (e.g. aluminium foil for pizza/focaccia)
- Follow hygiene and safety standards at all times
3. Cash Handling- Managing payments and pricing (to be discussed and trained gradually)
Support & Training- Full hands-on training will be provided directly by the owner
- You’ll be accompanied during the initial stages to ensure you feel confident in each process
- All protective equipment and tools will be provided

Candidate Profile- Comfortable working around food and basic kitchen equipment
- Willing to learn and follow safety instructions
- Reliable, friendly, and able to work independently after training
- Basic food handling or kitchen experience is an advantage but not required
