Overall Purpose

 

The position is primarily responsible for overseeing and coordinating the research and knowledge exchange portfolio of the University. The role includes building research and knowledge exchange capacity, with equal importance amongst academic staff and students leading to quality research outputs. The postholder will also be responsible for all aspects of research, knowledge exchange support and quality enhancement for postgraduate research provision.  

 

Strategic Roles:

  • Develop strategies and plans to grow research, knowledge exchange, and third-stream income streams, including executive education, micro-credentials, short courses.
  • Promote and enhance quality and integrity in research, knowledge exchange, postgraduate studies, and postgraduate studies.
  • Develop capacity to conduct research, knowledge exchange, secure grant and generate third-stream funding.
  • Foster a community of practice for research, knowledge exchange, postgraduate studies, and income-generating initiatives.
  • Facilitate the provision of institutional data and reports for decision-making purposes

 

Operational Functions:

  • Coordinate and oversee portfolio areas including coordinating the subject cluster RKE leads and develop a functioning campus RKE network
  • Ensure that academic staff receive support and staff development in all aspects of research, knowledge exchange, third-stream activities, (including short learning courses) and research supervision
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of executive education programs, short learning courses, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and financial sustainability.
  • Support and promote the development of research and knowledge exchange funding proposals
  • Maintain high postgraduate programmes standards
  • Develop and maintain research and knowledge exchange budgets
  • Prepare reports of research, knowledge exchange related activities and outputs
  • Monitor the progress of research, knowledge exchange, research projects and short learning courses and income generating activities.
  • Present the University at appropriate institutional and external meetings and events
  • Chair and contribute to Campus and University Committees and Working Groups as required by the Academic Director
  • Undertake student research supervision and or postgraduate teaching as required by the Academic Director

 

Research, Practice, Scholarship and Consultancy:

  • Undertake personal research and/or scholarly activities, and/or practice contributing to the Campus and University profile
  • Jointly or independently, develop bids for and secure competitive funding for research and/or knowledge exchange projects
  • Oversea and where appropriate lead on the development of major research and/or knowledge exchange projects and / or short learning courses
  • Demonstrate commitment to making an impact on society, based on research and/or knowledge exchange

 

General Functions:

  • To participate in the University staff appraisal scheme and other relevant activities
  • To undertake any other duties as shall be reasonably requested
  • To develop and maintain institutional repositories and databases

  • Experience of having built capacity in research and knowledge exchange and third-stream income
  • Evidence of research, knowledge exchange and third stream income performance and/or leadership in professional practice
