Who is our client?

Our client is a newly established support services company that has been formed to better support and strengthen their long-standing Mauritian-based business as well as other global finance operations across their enterprise.

Role Overview
The Procurement Category Buyer plays a key role in supporting Category Leads while independently managing procurement activities for less complex categories. The role involves processing purchase orders, negotiating simple contracts, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procurement best practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of procurement processes, supplier management, and contract administration.
Typical Responsibilities
1. Category Support & Procurement Execution
  • Assist Category Leads in implementing category strategies and sourcing initiatives.
  • Conduct market research and supplier analysis to support category planning.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and support procurement optimization initiatives.
2. Purchase Order & Transactional Procurement Management
  • Create, process, and manage Purchase Orders (POs) in the procurement system.
  • Ensure all purchase requisitions comply with internal policies and approval workflows.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to clarify procurement needs and requirements.
3. Contract Management & Supplier Negotiations
  • Draft, review, and negotiate simple supplier agreements and contracts under guidance from Category Leads and Legal teams.
  • Ensure supplier contracts align with company policies and risk mitigation requirements.
  • Track contract milestones, renewals, and expirations to maintain continuity of supply.
4. Supplier Relationship & Performance Management
  • Maintain relationships with key suppliers to ensure service levels, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Address supplier issues related to pricing, service levels, and deliveries.
  • Monitor supplier compliance with contractual terms and procurement policies.
5. Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure adherence to corporate procurement policies, ethical sourcing guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and escalate risks related to supplier performance, contract execution, and compliance issues.
  • Maintain accurate procurement documentation, ensuring audit readiness.
6. Continuous Improvement & Reporting
  • Support process improvements to enhance procurement efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Prepare reports on procurement activities, savings, supplier performance, and market trends.
  • Participate in procurement system upgrades, training sessions, and process enhancements.
What Makes a Great Candidate?
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
Experience:
  • 3-5 years of procurement, purchasing, or supply chain experience, preferably in a corporate or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with purchasing complex IT hardware, software, and services is highly desired.
Certifications (Preferred but not Required):
  • CIPS, CPSM, or other procurement-related certifications.
Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Coupa, Ariba, or similar procurement tools).
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Understanding of contract terms, pricing models, and supplier agreements.
  • Basic experience with RFQs/RFPs and supplier selection processes.
Procurement & Contracting:
  • Knowledge of procurement best practices and supplier management.
  • Skilled in drafting, negotiating, and administering contracts with attention to detail on terms, pricing, and compliance.
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and external partners.
  • Effective negotiator focused on value-driven outcomes.
Problem-Solving & Analytical Thinking:
  • Expertise in analyzing supplier proposals and pricing structures.
  • Quick decision-making to resolve procurement issues.
  • Strong analytical skills for procurement reporting.
Organizational & Time Management:
  • Efficient in managing multiple purchase orders, contracts, and supplier interactions.
  • Ability to prioritize urgent needs alongside long-term strategies.
  • Detail-oriented and proactive in procurement processes.
Compliance & Ethical Behavior:
  • Strong understanding of procurement policies, regulations, and ethical sourcing principles.
  • Maintains integrity in supplier interactions and ensures compliance with company governance and risk management policies.
