Varnish Technician (Plastinax Austral Ltd)

- Responsible for the mixing, matching, and application of varnish to frames in the developmental phase, while working with the Marketing / Technical teams.

Primary responsibilities

• Utilize spray guns in varnish application on eyewear frames;
• Ability to understand customers’ specifications;
• Good ability in selecting, matching and mixing of colours;
• Work with Marketing team to develop colours for customers;
• Ability to work from specifications, work sheets, dimensions, colour codes, mixing charts, tables, as well as verbal and written instruction / information;
• Need to prepare, match colours and mix standard and other primers, paints and coatings to proper consistency and viscosity, using thinners, solvents, additives and agitators, as required. Select pressures, nozzles, oven temperatures, as well as cure times;
• Visually check finished items for proper coverage. Refinish and touch up, as required;
• Use judgment to plan and perform painting and coating operation, booth set ups and other activities in preparing, priming, painting or coating of components and other parts;
• Plan and implement set ups and operations and make decisions following established methods and procedures;
• Ability to read and interpret documents, written in English, which might include written work instructions, schematic / assembly drawings, standard operating and maintenance procedures and safety rules;
• Must be able to communicate effectively with immediate Supervisor, as well as operatives;
• Requires manual dexterity, endurance, strength and the ability to do detail work;
• May have to work in booths that minimize their exposure to toxins;
• Need to aim at a high quality standard;
• Ability to work well with co-workers, as well as assisting or directing others in the performance of work;
• Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to details;
• Ability to follow written instructions and keep records;
• Ensure completion of each project in an efficient and timely manner;

• Clean up all equipment, including spray guns;
• Follow Health & Safety Standards and wear masks and other protective equipment, as necessary;

 Requirements

• Applicants must be at least 25 years old;
• Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in application of varnish, preferably in the automotive industry;
• Preference will also be given to candidates with relevant technical education in institutions like IVTB;
• Candidate is expected to have a colour-normal vision (no colour blindness);
• Selected candidate must be available to work extended hours and weekends as necessary;
