Job Title: Human Resources Manager

Our Client is a mining company primarily focused on the development and exploration of Graphite. The company aims to become a leading supplier of high-quality graphite for various applications including lithium-ion batteries, fuel cells, and graphene production.

The company is expanding its operations to Mauritius, where they aim to establish a robust presence. As they embark on this journey, they are seeking a skilled Human Resources Manager to spearhead the establishment of HR operations from scratch, ensuring compliance with local employment laws and providing strategic guidance to management.

Position Overview: The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for building and managing the HR function in the Mauritius office. He/She will play a pivotal role in implementing /adapting HR policies and procedures, fostering a positive work culture, and supporting the company's growth objectives. This role requires in-depth knowledge of employment laws,  compensation and benefits practices, and strong advisory skills to guide management decisions effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Establish HR Policies and Procedures: Implement comprehensive HR policies and procedures tailored to the Mauritius office, ensuring alignment with local regulations and best practices. Implement effective HR systems and processes to streamline operations.
  2. Recruitment and Onboarding: Oversee the full recruitment lifecycle, from job requisition to onboarding, ensuring the attraction and retention of top talent. Develop strategies to source candidates locally and internationally, conduct interviews, and facilitate smooth onboarding processes.
  3. Employee Relations and Compliance: Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters, addressing grievances, conflicts, and disciplinary actions in accordance with company policies and legal requirements. Stay updated on employment legislation in Mauritius and provide guidance to management on compliance issues.
  4. Compensation and Benefits: Design and administer competitive compensation and benefits packages to attract and retain employees. Conduct regular benchmarking studies to ensure the company remains competitive in the market. Manage payroll processes and coordinate with relevant stakeholders.
  5. Performance Management: Develop and implement performance management systems to assess employee performance, provide constructive feedback, and support career development initiatives. Coordinate performance appraisals, goal-setting processes, and performance improvement plans as needed.
  6. Training and Development: Identify training needs within the organization and develop training programs to enhance employee skills and competencies. Collaborate with department heads to design career development plans and succession strategies.
  7. HR Reporting and Analytics: Generate HR reports and analytics to track key metrics such as turnover rates, employee engagement levels, and workforce demographics. Utilize data insights to inform strategic decision-making and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  8. HR Administration: Oversee day-to-day HR administrative tasks, including record-keeping, documentation, and compliance with data protection regulations. Manage employee files and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field. HR certification (e.g., SHRM, CIPD) is preferred.
  • Proven experience (at least 5 years) in HR management roles, preferably within the manufacturing industry, multinational company or startup environment.
  • Experience in setting up an HR department from scratch
  • In-depth knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and best practices in Mauritius.
  • Strong understanding of HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, compensation, and performance management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to translate business objectives into HR initiatives.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism, with a commitment to upholding ethical standards.
