OIB History and Geography Teacher

To teach History and Geography in English to students of the British International Section (OIB – Option Internationale du Baccalauréat).

The LYCEE LA BOURDONNAIS, located in Mauritius (Curepipe), is a school establishment with French program welcoming students from the kindergarten to the Terminale.

We are currently looking for an History and Geography Teacher

for our British International Section at Secondary level.

The ideal candidate should be a British English speaker,

and have a good knowledge of British culture.

Start date: 22^th August 2024

Contract type: You will be employed directly by the Lycée La Bourdonnais and your contract will be governed by Mauritius Law.

Contract Term: One year with the possibility of being offered a permanent full-time position based on satisfactory performance. 

Working hours: Part-time (9 hours per week, excluding overtime).

Job description:

• The successful candidate will teach History and Geography in English to students of the British International Section (OIB – Option Internationale du Baccalauréat / French Baccalaureate with an International Option).
• The candidate will teach to students between 11 and 18 years old from 6ème to Terminale (UK: Years 7 to 13).
• The candidate will have to prepare High School Students for the following exams:
  • the DNBI oral exams (Diplôme National du Brevet – mention Internationale).
  • the OIB (Option Internationale du Baccalauréat).
• The candidate will collaborate with English Language and Literature teachers in order to set up the syllabus, to ensure coordination of the British Section, and report to management.

Qualifications and experience

• Excellent spoken and written British English - the minimum requirement is the C1 Level from the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
• Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree or above in History and/or Geography, preferably from a University in the UK.
• A PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification from the UK or an English-speaking country would be a significant asset.
• Teaching experience either in an English-based curriculum school or in the British Section of a French International school.
• Knowledge of the French Educational system would be an asset.
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, in a bicultural environment.
• Mastery of the French language (B1-B2 Level) is desirable.

Salary: Negotiable (The salary will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and work experience).
