The Laboratory Attendant & Phlebotomist is responsible for supporting daily laboratory operations and performing blood collection procedures. This combined role ensures accurate sample collection, proper specimen handling, clean and safe work environments, and smooth laboratory workflow.

 

Phlebotomy Duties

  • Verify patient identity and ensure proper labeling of all specimens.
  • Explain procedures to patients and provide reassurance to reduce anxiety.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions and provide appropriate assistance.
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and transport of blood samples.
  • Follow infection-control and safety protocols including PPE and sharps disposal

Laboratory Support Duties

  • Clean and sanitize instruments, and work areas.
  • Assist in receiving, labeling, and organizing incoming samples.
  • Prepare basic solutions, reagents, and sample containers under supervision
  • Dispose of waste and hazardous materials according to safety guidelines.
  • Assist laboratory technologists with simple tasks as instruct

Skills & Qualifications

  • HSC, Diploma or equivalent; phlebotomy certification or laboratory training preferred.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
  • Good communication and patient-care skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and safety in the laboratory
