Cost Surveyors and Estimators are crucial financial roles in construction.Estimators calculate the initial costs for a project to help win bids, while Cost Surveyors manage the project's budget from the planning phase through to completion, handling contracts, and financial control.
Responsibilities:
- Meeting with clients to discuss the scope and scale of the project.
- Collect and evaluate data on materials, labor, equipment, and time requirements
- Collaborating with engineers, contractors and architects to obtain cost information
- Consulting with industry experts to discuss cost estimates
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and requirements to determine costs.
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates and budgets.
- Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and risks.
- Review and update estimates as project details change.
- Present and explain cost summaries and estimates to management or clients.
- Maintain records of estimates, cost data, and assumptions for future reference
- Using computer software to calculate cost estimates
- Reviewing expenditure statements during all phases of the project
Profiles:
- Bachelors’ degree in engineering, construction management, or a similar field
- Proven work experience as a cost estimator
- Advanced knowledge of construction and engineering processes
- High level of mathematical skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Advanced analytical skills
- Proficient with computer estimator software
- Good project management skills
- Ability to travel
- Possess a valid driving licence
