The Duty Maintenance Supervisor oversees daily maintenance operations during their assigned shift, ensuring that all engineering and technical systems, including Food Safety (FS) requirements, operate efficiently, safely, and in accordance with Shangri-La’s luxury standards.

 

The role serves as the on-duty point of contact for maintenance, safety, and food-related equipment issues, ensuring minimal disruption to guest services and hotel operations. This position requires technical expertise, leadership, problem-solving skills, and proactive coordination across departments.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Supervision & Shift Management

  • Lead the engineering team during the shift, providing guidance, support, and task prioritization.
  • Ensure all maintenance operations follow hotel SOPs and Shangri-La standards.
  • Assign work orders and monitor completion to maintain quality and timeliness.
  • Maintain accurate shift logs and handover notes for the incoming shift.

2. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance

  • Monitor, inspect, and maintain mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, chillers, boilers, generators, elevators, and other hotel infrastructure.
  • Ensure maintenance of kitchen and food service equipment (FS), including refrigeration, dishwashers, water supply, and HVAC systems affecting food areas, to comply with food safety standards.
  • Execute preventive maintenance programs to reduce equipment failure.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns or emergencies to restore service.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all maintenance work, including repairs, replacements, inspections, and FLS/FS compliance checks.

3. Safety, Compliance & Standards

  • Enforce adherence to safety regulations, including electrical, fire, chemical, life safety, and food safety standards.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of equipment affecting FS compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with Shangri-La’s environmental, sustainability, and luxury operational standards.

4. Guest & Department Support

  • Respond promptly to urgent guest and departmental maintenance requests, minimizing disruption to guest experience.
  • Communicate effectively with other hotel departments regarding ongoing maintenance activities.
  • Ensure all work areas, particularly kitchens and food prep areas, are clean, organized, and compliant with FS standards.

5. Inventory & Equipment Management

  • Monitor and manage stock levels of critical spares and consumables, including FS equipment components.
  • Assist in procurement and ordering of replacement parts and equipment.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and usage of all tools, equipment, and materials.

6. Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare detailed shift reports, including work completed, pending tasks, and equipment status.
  • Record incidents, safety issues, and unusual occurrences for management review.
  • Maintain records of FS-related equipment inspections and compliance checks.
  • Assist in analyzing maintenance data to identify trends, recurring issues, and improvement opportunities.

Core Competencies

  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and building management systems.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with Food Safety (FS) compliance.
  • Effective leadership and team supervision skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and work under pressure.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on maintenance experience in a luxury hotel or similar facility.
  • Proven experience in supervising maintenance teams.
  • Certifications in relevant technical areas (e.g., HVAC, electrical, FS) preferred.
