Bell Boy

A Bell boy is someone employed in a hotel for the purpose of carrying luggage for the guests as they come or leave the hotel. He should as he welcomes them, go on to show them and escort them to their respective rooms. He may also run errands that may arise in the hotel, during his shift.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Escorts incoming hotel guests to rooms, assists with hand luggage, and offers information pertaining to available services and facilities of hotel, points of interest, and entertainment attractions.

• Inspects guest's room to ensure furnishings are in order and supplies are adequate.

• Explains features of room, such as television and safe and how to place telephone calls.

• Delivers messages and runs errands.

• Picks up articles for laundry and valet service.

• Calls taxi for guests.

• Transports guests about premises in motorized cart
• Keeps record of calls for service.
• Delivers packages, suitcases and trunks

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be able to speak, write and converse freely in English and French.

Must be able to speak, write and converse freely in the language spoken in the area.

Must be able to speak in one additional language other than the first two.

Must be able to lift heavy luggage.

Must be able to stand 8hrs a day while maintaining a smile and positive attitude.

Must be proactive.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

Education:

High school diploma required, additional hospitality or butler training preferred.

Experience:

At least 2 years of experience within the hospitality industry. Front Office Experience preferred.
