Job Summary:
The Steam Technician ensures the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of steam boiler systems and related plumbing in a high-capacity commercial laundry facility. This role maintains a reliable steam supply for laundry processes, upholds safety and hygiene standards, and supports team collaboration and local staff development to ensure operational excellence.
Reporting To: Laundry Manager or Laundry Supervisor
Key Responsibilities:
■ Operate steam boilers, managing valves, pressure, and temperature settings to
deliver a consistent steam supply for laundry equipment.
■ Monitor boiler performance through control systems, ensuring reliable
operation across varying workloads.
■ Start and shut down boilers following standard procedures, verifying system
readiness before each cycle.
■ Adjust boiler settings promptly to address performance anomalies and
maintain operational stability.
■ Perform regular inspections of boilers, pumps, valves, and piping to identify
and address potential issues.
■ Conduct preventive maintenance, such as cleaning components and servicing
plumbing connections, to ensure equipment reliability.
■ Troubleshoot and repair steam system and plumbing faults, including leaks or
valve issues, using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
■ Maintain plumbing components of the steam system, such as pipes and
fittings, to support efficient operation.
■ Report significant equipment issues to the Laundry Supervisor and suggest
improvements to enhance performance.
■ Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, inspections, and boiler
performance to support operational traceability.
■ Document plumbing and system repairs, ensuring records are clear and
accessible to the laundry team.
■ Update equipment documentation with operational notes to aid future maintenance efforts.
■ Adhere to industry safety standards and local regulations for boiler operations, plumbing, and chemical handling.
■ Use appropriate protective equipment during maintenance to ensure personal and team safety.
■ Follow emergency procedures for boiler or plumbing incidents, responding effectively to minimize risks.
■ Promote a safe working environment by maintaining equipment and enforcing safety protocols.
■ Ensure plumbing systems meet hygiene standards to prevent contamination in laundry processes.
■ Work closely with the Electrical Technician to ensure integrated steam and electrical system performance.
■ Assist other laundry staff with equipment-related tasks during downtime to support team efficiency.
■ Support the training of local staff on basic boiler and plumbing operations to build team capacity.
■ Perform additional duties as assigned by the Laundry Supervisor or Assistant Commercial Laundry Manager.
Qualification & Experience:
■ Engineering Diploma or ITI Certificate in Electrical or Mechanical System (2 or 3 Years)
■ Minimum 5-6 Year Field Experience
■ Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to safety and equipment reliability.
■ Proactive in addressing technical and plumbing challenges efficiently.
■ Reliable and punctual, thriving in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
■ Effective communicator, able to work with diverse colleagues and train others.
■ Physically capable of handling equipment in warm, humid conditions.
