Job Description
Alternative Energy Development Engineer is responsible for the strategic, commercial and operational development of the alternative energy business line, with a primary and immediate focus on biomass energy projects.
Reporting directly to the Business Development department, this role plays a key part in structuring, growing and scaling the subsidiary, by bringing and improving an already-defined pipeline of biomass projects from completed pre-development into execution, commissioning and operational readiness.
The position combines biomass-centered business development leadership, market and value-chain structuring, team coordination and strategic partnerships, while progressively laying the foundations for the expansion into other renewable and alternative energy technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
→Lead the end‑to‑end development of the biomass business unit, from plant set‑up and commissioning to steady‑state operations and commercial growth.
→ Oversee the implementation and start‑up of biomass facilities, ensuring operational readiness, performance stability and compliance from day one.
→ Structure, secure and manage the biomass feedstock supply chain, including sourcing strategy, contracts, logistics, quality control and risk mitigation.
→ Supervise day‑to‑day operations and maintenance, ensuring safety, availability, efficiency and cost control of the assets.
→ Define and monitor operational, technical and financial KPIs, driving performance optimization and continuous improvement.
→ Ensure full regulatory, environmental and HSE compliance in line with Mauritian requirements and corporate standards.
→ Manage cross‑functional interfaces between operations, supply chain, finance, technical teams and external partners.
→ Establish reporting frameworks for management, shareholders and financiers, covering performance, risks and outlook.
→ Support budgeting, forecasting and financial performance tracking for the biomass business line.
→ Lead the commercial development of the subsidiary, including client engagement, energy offtake discussions and partnership development.
→ Represent the biomass and alternative energy activities towards customers, suppliers, authorities and strategic partners.
→ Contribute to the long‑term strategy and scaling of the filiale, including project replication and diversification into other alternative energy solutions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, sustainability or a related technical field, with relevance to energy, industrial systems or infrastructure projects.
→ 5+ years of experience in renewable energy, biomass, industrial energy or related fields, with exposure to project execution and/or operations.
→ Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret operational, technical and cost data to support decision‑making and performance improvement.
→ Good understanding of regulatory, environmental and safety requirements applicable to industrial or energy facilities, particularly in the Mauritian context.
→ Project management experience, including the ability to manage execution phases, prioritize activities, coordinate multiple stakeholders and meet timelines.
→ Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to coordinate transverse activities across operations, supply chain, finance and commercial interfaces.
→ Experience in managing relationships with customers, suppliers, contractors and partners, including industrial clients and service providers.
→ Ability to structure processes, reporting tools and performance indicators to support operational monitoring and management decision‑making.
→ Proficiency in standard office and reporting tools (MS Office) with the ability to produce clear reports and presentations for management and stakeholders.
→ Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical, operational and commercial information to internal and external stakeholders.
→ Ability to work under pressure, manage operational constraints and follow established procedures, while maintaining a solution‑oriented mindset
→ Valid driving licence, with the ability and willingness to travel regularly to project sites and operational facilities
