Job Description
A Commis Pastry & Bakery is an entry-level culinary role where you assist senior pastry chefs in preparing doughs, batters, frostings, and desserts. You are responsible for executing daily mise en place (station prep), measuring exact ingredients, and maintaining a spotless, highly sanitary workspace
As a junior chef or "apprentice," you work under the guidance of senior chefs (like a Pastry Chef or Chef de Partie) to prepare doughs, batters, fillings, and pastries.
Key Responsibilities
Preparation & Baking: Measure and prep ingredients precisely, mix doughs, whip creams, and bake pastries following standard recipes.
Mise en Place: Set up and break down your pastry station daily, ensuring all necessary tools and supplies are ready for service.
Plating & Presentation: Assist in assembling, decorating, and plating desserts to meet aesthetic and quality standards.
Quality Control: Monitor baking times and temperatures; report any subpar ingredients or equipment malfunctions to the senior chef.
Hygiene & Sanitation: Adhere strictly to food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP), perform scheduled cleaning duties, and label/date all stored items.Ideal
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Formal culinary training, a pastry apprenticeship, or a relevant diploma is highly preferred.
Skills: Strong mathematical ability for recipe scaling, meticulous attention to detail, and a foundational understanding of baking techniques.
Physical Demands: Must be able to stand for long periods, work in warm environments, and lift/move heavy kitchen supplies.
Soft Skills: Eagerness to learn, strong teamwork capabilities, and the ability to work calmly under pressure.
