Key Responsibilities

As a Safety & Health Officer, your core duties, in line with Section 20 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 2005, will include:

  • Conducting regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments across worksites and operational areas.
  • Identifying hazards and recommending preventive and corrective measures to minimise risks.
  • Investigating accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, and employee complaints, and preparing detailed reports.
  • Delivering Safety & Health inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness sessions to both local and expatriate workers, subcontractors and other stakeholders.
  • Assisting in the implementation and continuous improvement of the companyโ€™s Health & Safety Management System.
  • Ensuring compliance with Safety & Health procedures, PPE requirements and deliveries, and legal obligations across sites.
  • Supporting emergency preparedness and crisis response initiatives.
  • Being available to work flexible or odd hours when operational and site requirements demandโ€‹.
  • Liaise with relevant authorities.

Ideal Profile & Qualifications

  • โ€‹Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Occupational Safety & Health / OSH Management from a recognised institution, or equivalent qualification recognised by the Higher Education Commission, in line with OSHA 2005 requirements.
  • Previous experience as a Safety & Health Officer, preferably within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Mauritian Safety & Health legislation and construction safety practices.
  • Good analytical and reporting skills with the ability to conduct investigations and prepare clear reports.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace and possession of a valid driving license.
