Job Description

Hiring a veterinarian to manage exotic animal health, treatments, vaccinations, and wildlife care operations.

Job Summary

Assist the Senior Manager Park Operations for overseeing all aspects of animal management.
Duties generally include making decisions involving animal husbandry, diets, veterinary care, quarantine procedures, enrichment activities, animal transportation, and research projects. Be involved with the selection and acquisition of new animals

Duties & Responsibilities

Operational work
Contribute planning and development of the park in respect of animal collection.
- Assist for making sure that the animals are being cared for in the most efficient and appropriate way possible.
- Orchestrate all aspects of animal care including but not limited to acquisition, disposition, husbandry, enrichment, implementation of balanced and nutritional diets, translocations, medical procedures, and vaccination
- Provide assistance to all activities regarding interaction with mammals and birds.
- Ensure that staff daily summary reports are uptodate to stay informed of animal health changes and needs within the animal care department.
- Assist in the success of various animal programs, the experience of the visitors with animals and the maintenance of the health of the particular animal collection
- Assist in the importation and exportation of animals and zoo exchanges.
- Direct the animal husbandry programs.
- Manage conservation programs by attending meetings, selecting species to manage within the park collection and writing reports and scientific papers.

Administration
- Assist the Senior Manager Park Operations for the WAZA project and ensure we are compliant with the requirements.
- Perform any other cognate duties as assigned by Management.

Any other cognate duties as may be necessary in the circumstances and/or required by the
employer.

Qualifications
Minimum education requirements
- Holder as a minimum a bachelor of Science degree in animal science, biology or zoology, or a related field, such as management, health or behavior.

Minimum experience requirements
- A minimum of three years of experience in a supervisory role and demonstrate a proven record of animal husbandry, enrichment and exhibition of a variety of mammals, birds and reptiles, including venomous species.

Required skills
- Sound experience in handling exotic animals and in the use of capture equipment for control of dangerous wild animals
- General knowledge of all animal phylum and their characteristics and habits
- Must be able to recognize any deficiencies in exhibit or animal holding facilities
- Good knowledge of veterinary procedures and vaccinations
- Must be able to recognize any deficiencies in exhibit or animal holding facilities
- Have good organizational skills
- Possess business acumen
- Demonstrate excellent leadership skills
- Available to work weekends and/or public holidays or odd hours
