Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Customer Service and Assistance:

·        Greet and assist customers in the fresh produce section, providing information about products, quality, and recommendations based on seasonal offerings.

·        Respond to inquiries regarding freshness, storage, and uses for different fruits and vegetables, offering friendly and knowledgeable guidance.

Product Presentation and Quality Control:

·        Arrange and maintain displays to highlight freshness, colour, and appeal, encouraging customer purchases.

·        Conduct regular checks on produce for quality and freshness, removing damaged, expired, or less attractive items to maintain high standards.

·        Ensure correct labelling on all produce, including prices, origin, and promotional details.

Produce Reworking and Waste Minimisation:

·        Rework produce as needed by identifying items nearing expiration or slightly bruised, using these items to prepare ready-to-eat, packaged options or marking them for quick sale.

·        Document and manage spoilage and waste to minimise loss, working with the Fruit and Vegetables Controller to implement waste reduction strategies.

Preparation of Ready-to-Eat and Packaged Fruits and Vegetables:

·        Prepare a variety of ready-to-eat, pre-packaged fruits and vegetables to offer customers convenient, fresh snack and meal options.

·        Wash, peel, cut, and pack fresh produce into clear, appealing packages according to safety and quality standards.

·        Ensure cleanliness and hygiene in all preparation areas, following store protocols and food safety guidelines to deliver high-quality products.

Inventory and Stock Management:

·        Monitor daily stock levels and report any restocking needs to prevent shortages and ensure availability of popular items.

·        Assist with receiving produce deliveries, checking quality, quantity, and freshness, and storing items properly in temperature-controlled areas.

·        Keep accurate records of inventory movements, including reworked items and spoilage, to support stock management.

Support for Deli Department:

·        Coordinate with the deli team to supply fresh produce items as needed for prepared deli foods.

·        Assist with setting up displays of packaged fruits and vegetables near deli products to enhance cross-selling and customer convenience.

·        Work with the deli team to fulfil specific requests or orders requiring fresh produce, supporting a smooth and efficient operation.

Health and Safety Compliance:

·        Adhere to health, safety, and food handling standards, maintaining a clean and organised work environment.

·        Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols for handling, storing, and preparing produce items.

Reporting and Documentation:

·        Report on customer feedback, monitor inventory levels, and product quality issues, providing updates to the Fruit and Vegetable Controller to optimise product offerings.

·        Assist in the preparation of daily reports on product availability, and any issues affecting product quality or customer satisfaction.

Continuous Improvement and Learning:

·        Stay updated on produce trends, best practices for handling, and customer preferences to enhance product quality and customer service.

·        Participate in training to improve product knowledge, preparation skills, and customer interaction techniques.
