Job Description
Job Purpose
The primary role of the Senior Business
Development Manager (“Senior BDM”) is to aid in the office’s sales efforts
along with meeting their own personal sales target. The position requires an
individual who is commercially minded and can take a holistic view in
generating sales for the office they work from. The candidate needs to be
results driven in the pursuit to hit sales hitting targets for themselves and
the wider sales team.
This role requires the candidate to
work closely with the Commercial Director and assist in generating sales and
marketing collateral for the office. As such, the successful candidate must
evidence a strong understanding of the office’s / Mauritius TCSP products, the
Group’s products, and be motivated to better the wider sales within their
office. Whilst not having any staff directly reporting to them, the position
requires the Senior BDM to support and mentor newer Business Development staff
in their practice.
Key to the role will be to develop,
grow and retain existing accounts, and to find new clients and new referral
partners by presenting solutions to clients and partners. The Senior Business
Development Manager will work with senior level management, marketing and
administration staff to bring in new leads, client and partners. He/she will help
the Commercial Director to manage the follow-on sales activities, ensuring
professional, timely communication on their business implementation, within Mauritius,
the wider African marketplace and across the Group.
Strategic planning is a key part of
this job description, since it is the Senior BDM responsibility to develop the
pipeline of new business coming in to the company. This requires a thorough
knowledge of the market, the solutions/services the company can provide, and of
the company’s competitors.
Main duties
- Achieve growth and hit individual sales targets.
- Support sales team for complex large pitches and
strategies, as well as day to day proposals pricing and support.
- Identify and generate sales leads, pitch services to new
clients and maintain a good working relationship with new contacts. Presenting
Sovereign to potential clients through direct communication in face-to-face
meetings, telephone calls & through online channels.
- Supporting the weekly Sales Meetings and present current marketing
and PR projects
- Following up on new business opportunities and setting up
meetings. She/he will develop new business relationships, generate and
negotiate new income for Sovereign, to an agreed annual target, increasing year
on year.
- To identify and
explore new opportunities for Mauritius from the surrounding African markets
such as Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Mozambique, Botswana and wherever opportunity
presents itself.
- Develop sales opportunities in target countries for
expansion.
- Support the Commercial Director in the development of
marketing literature/writing reports/providing management with feedback.
- Actively and successfully manage the sales cycle process:
lead generation, credentials pitch, asking questions, solution pitch,
negotiation, close, handover to the account management team.
- Provide forecasts, management reports and other reports as
needed.
- Possess drive, motivation and acute attention to detail in
ensuring all sales opportunities to The Sovereign Group are captured and
explored.
- She/he will have individual responsibility for new
business, and is expected to self-manage and team manage.
- As a representative of Sovereign Group at industry events
and tradeshows, your professional manner and polished appearance will aid your
intention of gaining new business leads and contacts.
- Managing and maintaining a pipeline and ensuring all sales
administration is current using our internal CRM software.
- Create and be accountable for all client proposals and any
further documentation, following The Sovereign Group procedures.
- She/he will effectively interact with other departments
including Finance, Compliance and administration teams when handing over new
client files ensuring you fully and correctly brief the relevant teams in all
aspects of the sale.
- Ensuring the smooth client onboarding process, working
with Compliance, Administration, Corporate Structuring, Operations and Finance
Teams to take the client through KYC, onboarding, payment and formation and
service provision steps and processes.
- Ensuring Sovereign remains proactive and responsive to
prospective clients.
- To respond to routine correspondence and enquiries from
clients and other staff members.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Travel as required to the relevant jurisdictions to meet with intermediaries and prospects.

You may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks within the company that may be deemed necessary.
Qualification, Experience and Skills
- Overall 5+ years’ multinational experience in sales and business consultancy, with a proven track record of achieving sales targets and driving revenue growth, including at least 2 years in Business Development, Client Relationship Management, Sales, or Financial Services, ideally within the Mauritian or African markets
- STEP
qualified or working towards STEP qualification
- Excellent understanding of sales techniques, market dynamics and customer needs
- Proficiency in CRM software and other sales marketing tools.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop streamlined processes between the sales team and other departments in the Company (mainly within Administration, Compliance, Finance and Client Accounting departments). Experience and demonstrated ability to collaborate cross functionally with other departments will be preferential
