Job Description

Objectives

The Technical Engineer is tasked with designing, engineering, assisting and witnessing execution of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and other renewable energy system under the supervision of the Engineering and O&M Manager. They will collaborate closely with project managers, site managers, consultants, contractors and clients to create efficient and cost-effective solar PV plants that comply with project requirements and regulatory standards. The Technical Engineer must deliver favourable outcomes within specified time frames and take responsibility for the technical aspects of projects.

Main responsibilities

Design Responsibilities:

  • Design solar farms according to prevailing standards, ensuring cost-effective designs
  • Assist the Engineering and O&M Manager in engineering tasks
  • Review the external studies / reports prepared by consultants / contractors
  • Prepare detailed studies (drawings, specifications, etc.)

Planning, Coordination and Project Execution phase:

  • Plan technical tasks to adhere to project timelines and key milestones for project success
  • Anticipate and confirm the feasibility of the suggested execution design
  • Collaborate and coordinate closely with project managers, site managers and other stakeholders on the technical aspects of a project
  • Follow-up technical matters to all relevant stakeholders on a project
  • Participate in performance testing of project during the T&C phase of a project

Site Surveys and Client Approval:

  • Conduct site surveys in accordance with the project team when required.
  • Confirm the compliance between the executive design and the works as performed
  • Provide necessary technical support to the commercial/project development team

Supplier Liaison:

  • Liaise with suppliers for price and technical matters
  • Suggest cost-effective solutions without compromising quality
  • Attend to FAT and SAT when applicable

Documentation and Tender Preparation:

  • Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ) for tenders
  • Coordinate the completion of bid documents
  • Prepare budgetary prices for potential projects
  • Prepare specifications for price requests from suppliers
  • Prepare technical documentation

Time Management:

  • Ensure tasks are completed within set timeframes

Lessons Learned:

  • Assist the Engineering and O&M Manager to document and share lessons learned from Engineering activities to improve processes, efficiency, and decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics engineering, renewable energy, or related field.
  • Valid driving licence

Experience

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in electrical/electronic field.
  • Prior experience in solar PV sector will be an added advantage.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems and components.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents (User/Installation Manuals, Plans, drawings, etc.)
  • Proficiency in design software tools such as PVsyst, AutoCAD, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of solar PV technologies and electrical/structural systems
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • High attention to detail and focus on quality.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Having a desire to stay informed of latest industry trends and innovations in solar technology.
  • Knowledgeable with relevant standards, guidelines, and regulations governing electrical and solar PV installations (e.g. BS, NEC, IEC, ASCE)
