Job Description
Job Summary
The job purpose is to provide technical underwriting support in driving the strategic portfolio management of the conventional lines of businesses (Fire, Engineering, Liability & Miscellaneous Accident representing a total of 24 insurance products) for Mauritius & Seychelles territories in view of maintaining profitable-growth and long-term sustainability for these specific lines.
The job operates via a system of delegation of authority and the key aspect of this job is to use data driven facts to evaluate portfolios’ health and provide insights and strategic recommendations to key stakeholders.
Main Responsibilities
- Provides support in the review of the Underwriting Risk Appetite framework, Policy forms, Underwriting & Rating guidelines, and any other technical documents as required.
- Effect key check exercises & underwriting file reviews to ensure accuracy, consistency and compliance with framework & guidelines.
- Work closely with Reinsurance team for terms related to Facultative and Special Acceptance policies and/or Treaty matters.
- Work closely with Pricing and Analytics team as well as IT to gather statistics/data following identification of any negative trend/s in respect of the delegated portfolio’s performance and come up with remedial action.
- Analyse loss experience of onerous accounts and/or policies with major claim/s including deep review of any risk surveys/loss adjustor’s reports and come up with recommendations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, i.e Pricing & Analytics, Client Management, Reinsurance, Claims Corporate, & Policy Administration teams for process efficiency, portfolio management and disciplined forecasting of underwriting results.
- Support the Underwriting Manager in any project related to new products and/or enhancement of existing products & underwriting systems.
Job Requirements
- HSC or Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Cert CII completed; Dip ACII in progress preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years working experience in underwriting of non-motor Insurances for Corporates.
- Strong knowledge of underwriting principles and conventional insurance products.
- Good understanding of reinsurance aspects (both Facultative & Treaty).
- High levels of accuracy and attention to details.
- High degree of drive, self-motivation and ability to work independently.
- Ability to work under pressure and deal with tight deadlines;
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365;
- Strong analytical & data interpretation abilities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Fluent in English and French, both written and spoken
