Job Description

Role Overview

The Accounts Officer is responsible for the day-to-day financial and accounting operations of STM Consulting Ltd and its affiliated group entities, using ZOHO Books as the primary accounting platform.

The role covers accounts payable and receivable, vendor bill processing, bank and vendor reconciliations and accurate financial record-keeping across multiple currencies and jurisdictions.

Your Responsibilities

Day-to-Day Accounting & Bookkeeping

         Process and record day-to-day financial transactions, including invoices, payments, receipts, and journal entries.

         Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger accounts and supporting schedules.

         Prepare bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

         Liaise with management company and outsourced companies for statutory compliance requirements.

         Maintain proper filing and audit trail of all financial documents, invoices and supporting records within ZOHO Books.


Cross-Border & Regional Accounting Support

         Assist in processing and reviewing accounting entries for the company's operations across various African jurisdictions.

   Support the Head/Manager in monitoring cross-border payments and ensuring transactions are recorded in line with each jurisdiction's requirements.

         Help maintain awareness of country-specific accounting practices relevant to the region.

Banking & Cash Management Support

         Assist with the preparation and processing of banking transactions and payment instructions.

         Monitor cash positions and flag any irregularities to the Head/Manager.

         Support the coordination of relationships with banking partners as required.

Compliance & Regulatory Support

         Assist in preparing documentation required for regulatory filings, audits, and statutory reporting.

         Support adherence to local and international financial regulations and internal controls.

         Help maintain organized records to facilitate compliance reviews and audits.

Financial Reporting & Reconciliation

         Prepare supporting schedules and working papers for management and statutory financial reports.

         Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports under the Manager's guidance.

         Perform account reconciliations and highlight variances for review.

Payroll Support

         Assist with the processing of payroll data, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

         Support the preparation of payroll-related reports and statutory returns across relevant jurisdictions.

Administrative Support

         Provide general administrative support to the Finance and Administration department, including record-keeping and filing.

         Assist with procurement, vendor documentation, and office administrative tasks as required.

         Support the coordination of documentation for permits, agreements, and other administrative matters.

Assistance & Back-up to the Regional Head of Finance and Administration

         Act as the direct assistant to the Head/ Manager, supporting the execution of  day-to-day responsibilities.

         Serve as back-up to the Manager during periods of leave or absence, maintaining continuity of essential finance and administrative functions.

         Escalate matters appropriately and keep the Head/Manager informed of ongoing tasks and any issues requiring attention.

Minimum Requirements

      Qualifications: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

    Experience: At least 2-4 years of accounting experience at officer level, with hands-on exposure to accounting practices in African countries being essential.

         Skills: Strong numeracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks accurately and efficiently.

     Knowledge: Working knowledge of accounting principles and reporting standards, with an appreciation of financial and regulatory practices across the African region.

         IT Proficiency: Proficient in MS Office suite (particularly Excel) and accounting software systems.

         Languages: Fluent in English and French, both written and spoken.

         Mobility: Willingness to travel occasionally on short-term assignments as required.

         High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail when handling financial data and transactions.

         Ability to adapt accounting approaches to different regulatory and business environments across African jurisdictions.

         Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines.

         Ability to work independently and take initiative, while also acting reliably as back-up for the Manager when required.
