Job Description
C-Care Hospitals & Clinics Mauritius is currently looking for an Patient Care Officer (Medical Secretary).
Reporting to the Patient Care Officer Team Leader, the Patient Care Officer is responsible for providing efficient administrative and frontline support across the Admissions, Inpatient Wards, and Accident & Emergency (A&E) departments. The role ensures accurate patient registration, admission, transfer and discharge processes, maintains complete and confidential patient records, coordinates with multidisciplinary teams, and facilitates seamless patient flow. The Patient Care Officer delivers a professional, compassionate, and patient-centered service while ensuring compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and established quality standards.
What you will be doing:
Admission
- Register patients accurately in the Hospital Information System (HIS).
- Verify patient identity, demographic details, insurance information, and required documentation.
- Facilitate admission, transfer, and discharge procedures in accordance with established policies.
- Obtain all required consent forms and supporting documents before admission.
- Allocate beds in collaboration with nursing and bed management teams
Accident & Emergency
- Register emergency patients promptly and accurately.
- Ensure immediate notification of the clinical team for urgent and critical cases.
- Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, referrals, and discharges from the A&E department.
- Maintain accurate records while ensuring minimal delays in patient processing.
Wards
- Maintain and update inpatient records throughout the patient's stay.
- Process transfers between wards and coordinate discharge documentation.
- Liaise with nursing teams, consultants, allied health professionals, and support departments to facilitate patient care.
- Ensure medical records and required documentation are complete and readily available.
Other Responsibilities:
- Provide courteous, professional, and compassionate service to patients and visitors.
- Promote a positive patient experience aligned with the hospital's service standards.
- Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and filed in accordance with hospital procedures.
- Coordinate communication between departments to support efficient operations.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Minimum School Certificate (SC) or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year of experience in a hospital, healthcare, customer service, or administrative environment.
- Understanding of medical terminology.
- Excellent customer service orientation.
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
